Malmo, Sweden: The Swedish artist Lars Vilks, who is on the death list of the terror network Al Qaeda because of his Mohammed cartoons, managed to escape an attack on Wednesday.

Vilks had just given an interview to the derStandard.at journalist Teresa Eder in Rönnquist & Rönnquist gallery in Malmö when an unknown man entered the gallery. He said he wanted to show Vilks some artworks that were inside a red suitcase. Vilks’ bodyguards refused the man entry and asked him to display the contents of his suitcase in front of the gallery. When they discovered a gun inside, they subdued the man. Five minutes later the police were also on the scene.

According to the Swedish newspaper “Aftonbladet”, it is said to have been only a dummy that the man wanted to present as an “artwork”. The police had previously blocked off the surrounding streets to examine the contents of the case. A bomb disposal team was also requested.

Vilks was brought to safety after the attempted attack. In his first reactions, he showed himself to be relaxed: “I have already experienced so much, I’m not impressed by something like this.”

This case brought by the man with the gun inside.
