Re: Navy Yard Shooting:
‘Clear Confirmation of American Exceptionalism’
RAT writes: Following the Monday shooting at the Navy Shipyard, Russian Foreign Affairs committee member Alexey Pushkov couldn’t resist taking a shot at Barack Obama and the United States, tweeting:
“A new shootout at Navy headquarters in Washington – a lone gunman and 7 corpses. Nobody’s even surprised anymore. A clear confirmation of American Exceptionalism.”
After Americans expressed anger at Pushkov’s comment on Twitter, he took another shot:
“The torrent of hate towards us from American citizens is staggering. One writes: ‘It seems that we (that is, the U.S.) saved you from the Germans during WWII for nothing’!!!”
Puhkov was playing off Russian President Vladimir Putin’s op-ed in last week’s New York Times, in which he lectured Barack Obama about the “dangers” of believing in American Exceptionalism, of which Obama had spoken earlier several days before:
“I carefully studied his address to the nation on Tuesday. And I would rather disagree with a case he made on American Exceptionalism, stating that the United States’ policy is “what makes America different. It’s what makes us exceptional.” It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation.”
Putin’s piece in the the Times followed his humiliation of Barack Obama earlier in the week when the Russian president seized control of the Syrian chemical weapons crisis from the slipping grasp of a desperate Obama.
Yes, America, the ridicule continues. Courtesy of the in-over-his- head community organizer “fifth best president in history.”
