Good News: Crack-smoking Mayor Seeking Reelection

Caroline May  reports:  Buckle up, Toronto Mayor Rob Ford has registered to run for another term.

Ford — who faced hot pressure to resign in 2013 due to his drug use and bizarre behavior — was the first person to register Thursday morning, according to CBC/Radio-Canada.

The Toronto mayor made headlines in 2013 when he refused to leave his post afteradmitting he smoked crack cocaine while he was “in one of my drunken stupors.” The Toronto City Council did however vote to strip the mayor of a lot of his power.

Ford’s reelection bid is not a surprise, as he has held that he would like to leave the decision about whether he stays or goes up to the voters.

“On Oct. 27, 2014, I want the people of this great city to decide whether they want Rob Ford to be their mayor,” he said in November, during the press conference, in which he revealed that he had in fact smoked crack cocaine.

According to CBC, Jan. 2 is the first day candidates can file nomination papers for the Oct. 27 election.
