NBC Southern California reports: One person was killed and at least five others injured when an SUV drove into a crowd standing outside a Southern California ice cream shop, fire officials said.

The crash happened just before 6 p.m. at Farrell’s Ice Cream Parlour in Buena Park, Orange County Fire Capt. Gonzalez told NBC4.

An SUV struck seven to eight people who were waiting to go inside the restaurant, Gonzalez said.

A 60-year-old woman died after the crash, he said. At least five others were being treated for injuries.

No one inside the restaurant was hurt.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt, he said. The reason he drove into the crowd was not immediately known, but a witness at the scene said the man may have accidentally accelerated while in a parking spot.
