Obama calls on Dallas friends for Democratic fundraiser
Tickets for the dinner ranged from $10,000 to the maximum allowed, $32,400
…Aberly, the hostess, has been a top bundler for Obama, raising more than $1 million for his two White House runs. She also has given roughly $500,000 over the last decade to assorted Democratic causes, plus $100,000 last fall to Planned Parenthood.
Obama spoke in a grand two-story dining room at the Aberly-Lebowitz home, a 12,000-square-foot, northwest Dallas mansion that’s appraised on the tax rolls for $10.1 million.
“When Democrats have the opportunity to set the agenda, we don’t have a country where just a few are doing really, really well,” he said.
From Love Field, the president’s motorcade wound its way to Strait Lane, an exclusive strip of real estate dotted with gazebos, tennis courts, pools, electric gates and privacy fences. His hosts’ home sported a campaign sign for Dallas City Council candidate Leland Burk, though the entourage passed more signs for rival Jennifer Staubach Gates…
Democrats have been shut out from statewide office since 1998. That’s the party’s longest drought in any state. But demographic shifts favor the party, and Obama allies have been working to rebuild the party, creating a group called Battleground Texas they hope will speed a return to power.
