Fort Lee officials say the incident was reported at Combined Arms Support Command Headquarters, building 5020. The woman entered the building “brandishing a gun,” which she reportedly turned on herself.
Military officials say the woman was an active-duty soldier.
No other information has been released.
According to WWBT, the incident comes as the post was preparing to release a new emergency notification system.
The last shooting on a military installation was reported in April, when an Iraq War veteran killed three people and injured 16 others at Fort Hood, Texas, before shooting himself. The shooter was identified was Ivan A. Lopez, 34.
Just weeks before this incident, a sailor was fatally shot at Naval Station Norfolk shortly before security forces killed a male suspect aboard the guided-missile destroyer.
