“While pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong may question why the United States hasn’t offered its unequivocal support, I want to make it clear to each one of them that their campaign is but one of dozens of important causes around the world that this administration is sidestepping.”

— — White House press secretary Josh Earnest

WASHINGTON—Addressing concerns that the Obama administration was selectively ignoring their ongoing demonstrations against the Chinese government, White House officials held a press conference Wednesday to reassure Hong Kong residents that their protest was just one of many issues the White House is currently keeping completely silent on.

“Our inaction puts the people of Hong Kong in good company with the subjugated populations of South Sudan, Eritrea, Central Asia, and sub-Saharan Africa, all of whom we systematically overlook. So, our message to the protesters is clear: You are not alone.”

“While pro-democracy activists in Hong Kong may question why the United States hasn’t offered its unequivocal support, I want to make it clear to each one of them that their campaign is but one of dozens of important causes around the world that this administration is sidestepping,” said White House press secretary Josh Earnest, adding that demonstrators should not feel singled out or slighted in the least, as the president is presently neglecting to acknowledge a long list of issues with thorny political and economic ramifications, from dangerous working conditions throughout Southeast Asia, to oppression of women and gays in Saudi Arabia, to wrongful political imprisonment in Eastern Europe…(read more)

It is about time the west kept its collective mouth shut on these issues. The East will sort itself out without our meddling. If it gets itself into a worse mess it won’t be our doing.

Pssst…it’s a joke. You fell for a fake story.

Good to know that you agree with the current administration’s position of choosing to not support pro-democracy movements.

The Obama White House doesn’t honor democratic tradition in the U.S.

Why should it honor democracy abroad?

At least the White House’s anti-democratic view is consistent.

I believe in democracy but not what is going around now.

Looks like you also believe fake news.

From reading your comments, it’s clear that you’re also one of those people that thinks that most of the world’s violence is “probably our fault”, and the war and bloodshed won’t come to our doorstep, if we just “left them alone”, they’d leave us alone, too, and just kill each other instead.

Like an ostrich, hoping it’ll just go away, if we withdraw from the world, they’ll stop plotting to extinguish Israel, the U.S., and it’ll probably just “burn itself out” on its own.

The world is just ‘too crazy’. We should not try to “pick sides”, we should just focus on our own domestic stuff.

        Good luck with that.

It’s called Isolationism. Or, wishful thinking.

History has proven to be very unkind to that particular belief system.

      • swo8 says:

There’s isolationism and there is meddling. The west thinks they know it all and they are going to fix it once and for all. Most of the problems of the east are a result of our meddling in the past.

“Most of the problems of the east are a result of our meddling in the past.”

A one word answer to that is:

        Bullshit.

We’re barely two hundred years old. We just got here. The problems of the east are thousands of years old.

The brainwashed notion that the modern democratic west is at fault — that we’re the primary cause instability and conflict in the eastern hemisphere — is the most toxic, arrogant, ignorant, anti-western propaganda load of bullshit ever spawned by the radical left.

Utter, complete, worthless Left wing self-hatred. They started feeding that baloney Marxist narrative to spoiled middle-class youth in the ’60s until a whole generation of academic careers are built on it.
