[VIDEO] Unpopular NY Mayor Bill De Blasio Booed at Police Graduation Ceremony

The New York Post reports that some in the crowd shouted “traitor” at de Blasio.

Andrew Johnson writes: The rift between New York Police Department and Bill de Blasio continued on Monday as the mayor faced a series of boos and heckles as he took the stage at a graduation ceremony for new officers at Madison Square Garden. The recent episode is the latest in the feud between de Blasio and the NYPD, in which officers have turned their back to the mayor at a number of public appearances.

Tension between the two became most apparent when de Blasio was jeered, in which he told the new graduates that “you’ll confront all the problems that plague our society, problems that you didn’t create.” According to a local CBS affiliate, a member of the audience fired back…(read more)

    Unpopular? He was elected by a 72% majority. A couple of whingey cops doesn’t make him ”unpopular”.

      Which is why the headline refers to De Blasio’s unpopularity as actual Mayor, rather than as a campaigning candidate. Though his current unpopularity could be temporary, plenty of time to rebound. However, even as candidate, the “72% majority” (of less than 25% of registered voters) is a questionable measure, voter turnout was a record low, over 3 of the 4.3 million registered voters declined to show up. The evidence suggests that the mayor’s current public reputation is well below that of the “wingey” NYPD that he has so little respect for, but which the majority of NY (and the nation) supports. De Blasio enjoys the distinction of being the #1 most troubled Mayor in the U.S.. For a socialist with divisive racist rhetoric, this is probably a badge of honor.
