It Must Be Spring: Bainbridge High Teacher Jessica M. Fuchs Pleads Not Guilty to Sexual Misconduct with Student

A 25-year-old Baingbridge High School teacher pleaded not guilty Monday to alleged sexual misconduct with a 16-year-old boy.

“Fuchs’ bail was reduced from $100,000 to $25,000, despite the victim’s mother’s pleas to keep the bail high, fearing Fuchs would try to get in contact with her son.”

Jessica M. Fuchs appeared in Kitsap County court Monday. She pleaded not guilty to charges of sexual misconduct with a minor, communication with a minor for immoral purposes, and tampering with a witness.

Fuchs’ bail was reduced from $100,000 to $25,000, despite the victim’s mother’s pleas to keep the bail high, fearing Fuchs would try to get in contact with her son.

Fuchs’ is scheduled to next appear in court on June 9.

According to probable cause documents, police were contacted in late February by a Bainbridge Island High School Associate Principal who believed Fuchs was in a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student. [KIRO News Video HERE]

“Fuchs also did an Internet search for “how to permanently delete cellphone records” on a school laptop. She also searched ‘Paternity Tests.'”

Police contacted the boy’s parents, and uncovered evidence that the boy communicated with Fuchs via the popular social media app SnapChat.

“Police received a warrant to investigate Fuchs’ electronic devices, and allegedly uncovered illicit text messages and graphic videos that Fuchs sent to the boy.”

At first, documents show, the boy denied anything sexual occurred between himself and Fuchs. However, the boy allegedly later admitted to his mother that he engaged in sexual relations with Fuchs at her home, saying that Fuchs’ husband even walked in and caught them in the act.

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND — A 25-year-old female teacher at Bainbridge High School was arrested Thursday for alleged sexual misconduct with a 16-year-old boy.

“At first, documents show, the boy denied anything sexual occurred between himself and Fuchs. However, the boy allegedly later admitted to his mother that he engaged in sexual relations with Fuchs at her home, saying that Fuchs’ husband even walked in and caught them in the act.”

UPDATE: Fuchs Pleads Not Guilty, Reveals She’s Pregnant

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash. — A 25-year-old female teacher at Bainbridge High School was arrested Thursday for alleged sexual misconduct with a juvenile male victim, police said.

“Mrs. Fuchs cusses in class sometimes. That’s part of why the kids all like her, because she acts like a teenager so much.”

Fuchs was arrested today by the Bainbridge Police and transported to Kitsap County Jail.

Jessica M. Fuchs is charged with:

  1. Sexual Misconduct with a Minor in the 1st degree, a felony
  2. Communication with a Minor for immoral purposes, a gross misdemeanor
  3. Tampering with a Witness, a felony

Bail was set at $100,000, police said.

The student, who wishes to remain anonymous, said she saw her teacher as a friend: “Mrs. Fuchs cusses in class sometimes. That’s part of why the kids all like her, because she acts like a teenager so much. . . . She always let people come in before or after school for help.”

[Arrested Teacher Is a BHS Graduate and a ‘Friend’ to Students]

“At this time the police do not have any indication that there are additional victims involved,” a Bainbridge Police Department news release said.

The Bainbridge Island Review‘s Brian Kelly reports:

Principal Mary Alice O’Neill, in an email to parents, said Bainbridge police had arrested a teacher — Fuchs was not mentioned by name in the email — “on felony and misdemeanor charges, including sexual misconduct with a minor.”

“We understand the sad and unsettling nature of the allegations and resulting arrest. We want you and your student to feel the environment at BHS supports their physical, and emotional safety, as well as academic growth,” O’Neill added. “Toward that end, we will continue to make counselors and staff available to help support our students.”
