BREAKING: House Kills Fake Border Security Bill, Won’t Vote on Supplemental: UPDATE: Might Pass?

Capitol Hill the morning after the budget deal, October 17, 2013.

I’m having a hard time keeping up…

UPDATE: House Border Bill Might Still Pass

Just in, NROs Joel Gehrke reports: House Republicans have a special conference meeting at 3 p.m., as the leadership team is trying to rally votes for the Republican border crisis package after pulling the bill this afternoon.

“Members are advised that we have a Special GOP Conference Meeting at 3:00 p.m,” a notice from the whip’s office states. “Members are further advised that additional votes are possible in the House today,” (original emphasis).
That alert jives with the leadership team’s statement when they pulled the bill…(read more)

Roll Call reports:

Updated 1:55 p.m. | House GOP leaders ditched their plans to vote on a border supplemental Thursday after failing to secure the votes to pass it.

“We don’t think we have the votes,” said Rep. Kay Granger, R-Texas, one of the architects of the bill. She said the whip count was “very close” with about 214 supporters, including Democrats.

Ace notes:

The Democrats were united against it, because they’re against anything that even pretendsto discourage illegal immigration.

Conservatives balked at voting for a pretend measure that just might be a “supertrap” for having a conference committee which then votes out a Comprehensive Amnesty bill.

So the bill is now pulled for lack of support... (read more)

Back to Roll Call: “There are people who just don’t want to do anything,” she said. “They don’t want to spend the money.”

Kurt Schlichter: ‘What you call ‘privilege’ is just me being better than you…’

2013-12-02T195354Z_1_CBRE9B11JA300_RTROPTP_3_MARKETS-STOCKS

For TownHall.comKurt Schlichter  writes:  Liberals have a new word for what normal people call “success.” They call it “privilege,” as if a happy, prosperous life is the result of some magic process related to where your great-great-great-grandfather came from.

It’s the latest leftist argument tactic, which means it is a tactic designed to preventany argument and to beat you into rhetorical submission. Conservatives, don’t play their game.

Call: “Check your privilege!”

Response: “What you call ‘privilege’ is just me being better than you.”

It’s easy to see that this notion that accomplishment comes not from hard work but from some mysterious force, operating out there in the ether, is essential to liberal thought. To excuse the dole-devouring layabouts who form so much of the Democrat voting base, it is critical that they undermine the achievements of those who support themselves. We can’t have the American people thinking that hard work leads to success; people might start asking why liberal constituencies don’t just work harder instead of demanding more money from those who actually produce something.

“Don’t worry about not making sense. They’re college students. They are used to not understanding what people smarter than they are tell them.”

This “Check your privilege” meme is the newest trump card du jour on college campuses and in other domains of progressive tyranny. It morphed into existence from the “You racist!” wolf-cry that is now so discredited that it produces little but snickers even among liberal fellow travelers. After all, if everyone is racist – and to the progressives, everyone is except themselves – then no one is really racist. And it’s kind of hard to take seriously being called “racist” by adherents of a political party that made a KKK kleagle its Senate majority leader.

So how do we deal with this idiocy? Read the rest of this entry »

‘That’s Our Story and We’re Stickin’ To It’

The Left’s New Narrative: “Nobody is Hurt by Obamcare”

For NROAlec Torres  writes:  In what is rapidly becoming the latest liberal trope, left-wing news outlets and commentators have begun telling the world that there actually are no victims of Obamacare.

“Conservatives are groping toward a new strategy, one that relies on highlighting examples of the terrible harm Obamacare does. There’s only one problem: they haven’t managed to come up with any real examples.”

 — Paul Krugman, New York Times

Daring to do the impossible (again), the Left is telling America that all the stories of cancellations, lost plans, premium hikes, and other troubles are all just made up by vicious and deceitful right-wingers in order to defame their beautiful Obamacare.

“I’m beginning to think there’s not actually a single person in America who’s been harmed by Obamacare.”

— Kevin Drum, Mother Jones

Nobel laureate Paul Krugman uses his perch at the New York Times to argue that Obamacare is doing just fine, and conservative doomsday predictions won’t come true.

“Conservative detractors have spent the last several months in a desperate search for ‘Obamacare victims.’ . . . The problem, of course, is that all of these examples, once they’re subjected to even minor scrutiny, have fallen apart — the ‘horror stories’ really aren’t so horrible.”

— Steve Benen, MSNBC

Conservatives, knowing this, Krugman writes, are “groping toward a new strategy, one that relies on highlighting examples of the terrible harm Obamacare does. There’s only one problem: they haven’t managed to come up with any real examples.”

[VIDEO] The Hammer: ‘For God’s Sake, Why Do You Have to Talk about That?’

Conservatives can make a case for “women’s issues” if they avoid incendiary topics like “the psychology of women’s sexuality,” said Charles Krauthammer. “For god’s sake, why do you have to talk about that?” he said on Friday’s Special Report, referring to Huckabee’s remarks earlier in the week…
