Ann Coulter: Cantor Loses By 11 Million Voters

Coulter-june-2014

In today’s The Daily CallerAnn Coulter writes: Economics professor Dave Brat crushed House Majority Leader Eric Cantor in the Republican primary Tuesday night, in a campaign that was mostly about Cantor’s supporting amnesty for 11 million illegal aliens.

“As I have been warning you, the big, national tea party groups are mostly shysters and con-men raising money for their own self-aggrandizement.”

This marks the first time a U.S. House majority leader has ever lost a primary election.

His crushing defeat reinforces a central point: Whenever the voters know an election is about immigration, they will always vote against more immigration — especially amnesty.

Cantor spent more than $5 million on his campaign. Brat spent less than $150,000. But Brat made the election about Cantor’s support for amnesty, so he won.

As Eric Hoffer said, “Every great cause begins as a movement, becomes a business, and eventually degenerates into a racket.”

The pro-amnesty crowd — i.e., everyone except the American people — promptly lost its collective mind. The amnesty shills went on the attack, insisting that Cantor’s historic defeat had nothing to do amnesty. Brat’s triumph was touted as simply a victory for the “tea party.”

cantor-loss

Of course, these are the same people who also try to persuade us that amnesty isn’t “amnesty,” illegal aliens aren’t “illegal aliens” (they’re “undocumented workers”!), and that there are 30 million jobs Americans won’t do at any price.

In fact, however, the tea party had nothing to do with Brat’s victory. Only the small, local tea party groups stand for anything anymore, but they’re as different from the media-recognized “tea party” as lay Catholics are from the Catholic bishops.

National tea party groups did not contribute dime one to Brat. Read the rest of this entry »

Officals Say Bergdahl Is Physically Sound, ‘Better Than Expected’

bowe-bergdahl-cap

For The Daily Caller, Chuck Ross reports: One of the main claims that the Obama administration made to justify giving up five Taliban commanders in exchange for Army sergeant Bowe Bergdahl has been undermined, according to U.S. officials who say he is “physically sound.”

Obama administration officials have said that Bergdahl’s health was deteriorating rapidly and that he was in imminent danger after being held captive by the Haqqani network for nearly five years.

Because of his condition, a deal to free him from captivity was fast-tracked, the administration has maintained.

But U.S. officials who have been briefed on Bergdahl’s condition since his return into U.S. hands told The New York Times that he is healthier than expected.

According to the report, the officials said that Bergahl is not malnourished. He weighs 160 pounds, a healthy weight for his 5-foot-9 frame. Read the rest of this entry »

White House Story Unraveling: US Knew Bowe Bergdahl Had Deserted, Investigated Him

rice-obama

For The Daily CallerChristopher Bedford reports: As early as 2010, the Pentagon had confirmed that Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl had deserted his post in 2009, and even before he deserted he had been the subject of “a major classified file” by U.S. intelligence.

[Also see: The soldiers in Bowe Bergdahl’s platoon speak up: We Swore to an Oath and We Upheld Ours. He Did Not.’– The Weekly Standard]

A 2010 investigation by the Pentagon found there was solid evidence that Bergdahl hadn’t lagged behind on patrol, as first reported, and had indeed walked from his post, AP reports. The Pentagon decided at that point to draw down search-and-rescue operations. Read the rest of this entry »

Rewind: City Pays $25,000 To Man Arrested For Bringing A Gun To Movies

Now that an official Harvard study confirms what we've been saying, and what other studies have shown, all these years, will gun-control advocates get the message, and admit their policies are a failure? Or will they double down, and continue to advocate the same dishonest anti-gun agenda?

For The Daily CallerGreg Campbell reports: A man who was arrested for carrying a holstered handgun into a movie theater a week after the Aurora shootings in 2012 received a $25,000 settlement check from the city of Thornton last week, according to Denver’s 7News.

Jim Mapes had a concealed-carry permit and said he’d carried his gun to the same theater several times in the past. Another theater-goer called 911, saying a man with a weapon had just entered a movie theater. He was originally charged with brandishing the weapon, which Mapes denied.

“It never left my holster,” he told the station. And although the gun was carried openly rather than being concealed, his lawyer said that’s never been against the law in Thornton. Read the rest of this entry »

Record Measles Outbreak: Thanks to Vaccine Avoidance, Measles Climbs to 20-Year High

jenny_mccarthy-ANTI-VAX

This year’s measles outbreak is the worst in 20 years, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC) announced Thursday.

At least 70% of this year’s measles cases involve unvaccinated people

The CDC said 288 cases of the disease have been identified since January, the most in the first five months of the year since 1994. Ohio has seen the most cases with over 160, most of them emanating from the state’s Amish community.

€œ”This is not the kind of record we want to break”

— Assistant Surgeon General Dr. Anne Schuchat

The vast majority of cases still originate from other countries, with people acquiring the disease while abroad and then bringing it back to the U.S., where they spread it to others. The U.S. has not had a home-grown measles epidemic in decades. Read the rest of this entry »

Could Godzilla Raise Awareness About The Threat of EMP?

godzillal-monster

For The Daily CallerMatt K. Lewis writes: Take it from me: The new Godzilla movie is an utterly forgettable film. Unless you are a huge fan of the genre, don’t waste your time or money. By now, much has been written (pro and con) about this. But if there is one interesting thing left to say, it’s that the movie might (depending on your perspective) either raise awareness — or trivialize — the threat of electromagnetic pulse.76

“More Americans will learn about EMP — even in the flawed sense of being temporary — from Godzilla than from all the RAND studies and panel discussions at CPAC.”

— Grover Norquis

Before we continue, I suppose it’s important to discuss exactly what an EMP — which some believe could cripple civilization, sending us back to the stone age — is:

A few years ago, USA Today put it this way:

Electromagnetic pulses (EMP) are oversized outbursts of atmospheric electricity. Whether powered by geomagnetic storms or by nuclear blasts, their resultant intense magnetic fields can induce ground currents strong enough to burn out power lines and electrical equipment across state lines. Naked Man Storms White House Security Checkpoint

IMG_3928For The Daily Caller reports: At 2:45 p.m. on the Friday before Memorial Day, a man approached the White House security gates, just in time for President Barack Obama’s 3:30 p.m. press announcement.

“I have a 3:00 p.m. meting with Mr. Obama,” he said as he handed the security officers his driver’s license.

“Sir, this is a foreign ID, we need either an American driver’s license, an international license or a passport,” the Secret Service agent replied. ”I’m sorry but you can not enter.”

The man walked away, looking slightly upset. The Secret Service continued going about their usual business of checking reporters’ IDs,  including the ID of this Daily Caller reporter, and ushering them through security.

Suddenly, the man began undressing in front of the gate, but no one noticed until he was down to his gray boxer briefs. Read the rest of this entry »

‘Who wants to live in a world where the only place you can speak your mind is in your head?

bill_maher_-_new_rules

The Emerging Liberal Dystopia

For The Daily Caller, Allen Porter writes: You know things are bad when even a hardcore liberal ideologue like Bill Maher can not only see but publicly admit it.

In a recent installment of the infamous “New Rules” segment of the HBO show titled after himself, Maher tackled the trendy topic of the release of Donald Sterling’s recorded remarks. Only instead of falling in line with the mainstream liberal media’s inexorable march for political correctness in this as in all cases—instead of focusing on the “racist” dimension of Sterling’s comments, that is — Maher decided to buck the well-worn mantle of his ideology and, instead, focus on the real story. That is: instead of playing into the fabricated narrative predictably constructed by the pervasively liberal media, Maher saw what is really at stake in a case like this — namely free speech, privacy, and our Fourth Amendment rights.

maher-screen

The terrifying reality is that we are on the verge of, and moving ever closer to, a liberal dystopia in which speech is directly policed, and thought thereby indirectly policed; one in which principles of political correctness replace moral standards as the ultimate criteria of normative evaluation; one in which the chilling effects on discourse has become a deep freeze. Maher himself made the perfect historical analogy during the May 9 show, which is somewhat ironic:

“Who wants to live in a world where the only place you can speak your mind is in your head? That’s what East Germany was like. That’s why we fought the Cold War, remember? So we’d never have to live in some awful limbo where you never knew who, even among your friends, was an informer. And now we’re doing it to ourselves.”

Boy Scout Troop Leader, Rabbi Arrested In Pornography Roundup

facepalm-jewish

For The Daily CallerAriel Cohen reports: It sounds like the beginnings of a joke gone horribly wrong—what do a police chief, a Boy Scout troop leader, a nurse and a rabbi have in common? They were all recently arrested for charges of trading in child scout-leaderpornography.

The three were among over 71 child pornographers that were arrested in the New York City area on Tuesday. According to a press release, it was one of the largest roundups of child pornographers in New York City area, and the result of a five-week federal investigation.

According to James Hayes in the Immigration Customs Enforcement’s New York Office, this case proves that consuming child porn “is not something that is just done by unemployed drifters who live in their parents’ basement,” and that  ”If this operation does anything, it puts the lie to the belief that the people who do this are not productive members of society.” Read the rest of this entry »

Sanity Outbreak: Aussies To Slash 90% Of Global Warming Funding From Budget

australia-90

For The Daily CallerMichael Bastasch writes:  Australia’s conservative coalition is set to cut more than 90 percent of the funding related to global warming from their budget, from $5.75 billion this year to $500 million, over the next four years.

“…The carbon tax was basically socialism masquerading as environmentalism, and that’s why it’s going to get abolished.”

— Tony Abbott

Environmentalists and leftist politicians in the country protested the move by conservative Liberal Party Prime Minister Tony Abbott’s governing coalition to slash funding for climate programs, arguing such funding for green energy and reducing carbon dioxide emissions were necessary to stop global warming.

But Abbott’s government shot back, saying that the country needed to reduce the size of government and improve the economy. Read the rest of this entry »

EMAILS: Democratic Senator Pressured IRS To Target Groups

Senate Homeland and Governmental Affairs Investigations Subcommittee chair Levin questions Credit Suisse officials in Washington

For The Daily CallerPatrick Howley writes: The IRS’ Washington, D.C. headquarters targeted conservative groups in part due to pressure from Democratic Sen. Carl Levin, according to emails obtained by the watchdog group Judicial Watch and reviewed by The Daily Caller.

Levin, chairman of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs’ permanent subcommittee on investigations, wrote a March 30, 2012 letter to then-IRS commissioner Douglas Shulman discussing the “urgency” of the issue of possible political activity by nonprofit applicants. Levin asked if the IRS was sending out additional information requests to applicant groups and citing an IRS rejection letter to a conservative group as an example of how the IRS should be conducting its business.

A top IRS official replied that the agency could send out “individualized questions and requests.”

“Some entities claiming tax-exempt status as social welfare organizations under 26 U.S.C.&501(c)(4) appear to be engaged in political activities more appropriate for political organizations claiming tax-exempt status under 26 U.S.C.&527,” Sen. Levin wrote. “Because of the urgency of the issues involved in this matter, please provide the following information by April 20, 2012.” Read the rest of this entry »

Elizabeth Warren: ‘Socialist? Why Do People Think I’m a Socialist?’

warren-socialist-eyes

For The Daily CallerRobbie Soave writes: Just days after proposing a massive bailout of indebted students that would subsidize their college loans and forgive some of their financial obligations, far-left Democratic Sen. Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts said she has no idea why people think she is a socialist.

“…an effort to punish taxpayers for college students’ bad choices.”

Her bill, the Bank on Students Emergency Loan Refinancing Act, would lower the amount of money that students are obligated to repay to the federal government. If enacted, the bill would deprive the federal government of billions of dollars in interest payments owed to its shareholders: the American taxpayers.

Bluey, Lysaught, and Trinko at the Daily Signal headquarters

For Businessweek writes: Last year the conservative Heritage Foundation had more influence on the direction of the Republican Party than just about anyone else—and not necessarily for the better. Over the summer, the conservative think tank’s president, former South Carolina Senator Jim DeMint, teamed up with Texas Senator Ted Cruz and other lawmakers on a cross-country tour to convince party activists, and eventually GOP leaders, that they could stop Obamacare by refusing to fund it.

“We came to the realization that the mainstream media had really abdicated the responsibility to do the news and do it well.”

DeMint forced a showdown because he wanted Republicans to unify around his vision of an unapologetic hardline conservatism—a vision he thinks most Americans will support if given the chance. That led to a government shutdown, a collapse of conservative will, and plenty of angry recriminations from fellow Republicans.

Heritage, run by former Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC), hopes a sleeker, more mobile-friendly design will help the site appeal beyond the conservative demographic catered to by sites like Breitbart and The Daily Caller.

“We plan to do political and policy news, not with a conservative bent, but just true, straight-down-the-middle journalism.”

— Geoffrey Lysaught

Now Heritage has a new plan to exert its influence and, its leaders hope, win converts to the cause. On June 3 it will begin publishing the Daily Signal, a new digital news site whose primary focus will be straight reporting. “We came to the realization that the mainstream media had really abdicated the responsibility to do the news and do it well,” says Geoffrey Lysaught, vice president of strategic communications at the Heritage Foundation, who will also serve as publisher. The site aims to rectify the conservative perception that mainstream news slants to the left. “We plan to do political and policy news,” says Lysaught, “not with a conservative bent, but just true, straight-down-the-middle journalism.”

How does this help Heritage? The Daily Signal will also publish an opinion section aimed at a younger audience that isn’t thumbing through the editorial pages of theWall Street Journal. Heritage is betting that these readers, attracted to the Daily Signal’s news, will find themselves persuaded by the conservative commentary and analysis that will draw on the think tank’s scholars and researchers. The goal of the appearances, said Rhodes, is “to convey that the United States is doing everything that we can to protect our people and facilities abroad; [and] to underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, not a broader failure of policy.”

…The email is black-and-white evidence of deception and spin by top White House officials, who have denied since shortly after the 2012 attack that they tried to portray it as an out-of-control protest. In fact, the Cairo demonstration — which was not blocked by the Obama-supported Muslim Brotherhood government of Egypt — was organized to demand the release of a jihadi locked up in a U.S. jail…

Emails sent by senior White House adviser Ben Rhodes to other top administration officials reveal an effort to insulate President Barack Obama from the attacks that killed four Americans.

Rhodes sent this email to top White House officials such as David Plouffe and Jay Carney just a day before National Security Adviser Susan Rice made her infamous Sunday news show appearances to discuss the attack.

The “goal,” according to these emails, was “to underscore that these protests are rooted in an Internet video, and not a broader failure or policy.”

Rice came under fierce criticism following her appearances on television after she adhered to these talking points and blamed the attack on a little-watched Internet video.

The newly released internal White House e-mails show that Rice’s orders came from top Obama administration communications officials.

  • Creates an absolute defense for the legal use of deadly force in the face of a violent attack.
  • Lowers the age to obtain a concealed WCL for self-defense from 21 to 18 for active duty military, with specific training.

  • Codifies the ability to legally carry, with a WCL, in sterile/non-secure areas of airports.

Arizona: Governor Signs Pro-Gun Bills

arizona-gun-laws

Yesterday, Governor Jan Brewer (R) signed House Bill 2103 into law.  Introduced by state Representative Kelly Townsend (R-16), HB 2103 would allow an individual of at least nineteen years of age to obtain a concealed weapon permit if the person is currently in military service or has been honorably discharged.  This legislation is a good way to thank our military for their service and will benefit law-abiding gun owners in Arizona.  HB 2103 passed in the state Senate by a 20 to 10 vote on Wednesday and in the House by a 39 to 18 vote on March 10.

Also yesterday, House Bill 2535 was reported in the Senate by the Committee of the Whole as “Do Pass.” Introduced by state Representative John Kavanagh (R-23), HB 2535 requires that certification by a chief law enforcement officer (CLEO), when a signoff is required for the transfer of a firearm or other item regulated by the National Firearms Act (NFA), be provided within sixty days as long as the applicant is not prohibited by law from receiving the firearm or other item.  HB 2535 would prevent an arbitrary personal bias from determining Arizona firearm policy and ensure that qualified, law-abiding Arizonans would not be denied their ability to legally possess NFA items.  The reforms in HB 2535 would benefit law-abiding Arizona Second Amendment supporters by ensuring that the process to obtain NFA items already legal in Arizona remains consistent, fact-based and objective.  Additionally, HB 2535 would provide an individual who has been denied certification by a CLEO with a written explanation for the denial.  HB 2535 now goes to the Senate floor where it will be considered as early as next week.

Obama Administration Wants to Require Companies to Give Workers’ Numbers, Addresses to Unions Before Labor Elections

Obama-presser-hrz

For  The Daily CallerPatrick Howley reports: The Obama administration is poised to change regulations to allow for union “ambush elections” in which workers have less time to decide whether or not to join a union — and in which workers’ phone numbers and home addresses are provided to unions.

The administration’s National Labor Relations Board’s (NLRB) proposed rules would allow for union elections — in which workers at a company vote whether or not to unionize — to be held 10 days after a petition is filed. And what, exactly, would be happening to the unions during those 10 days? The new rules require employers to disclose workers’ personal information, including phone numbers, home addresses, and information about when they work their shifts.

Insiders close to the situation believe the new rules will almost certainly go into effect with few or no fundamental changes. Read the rest of this entry »

Re: CNN’s Dumbest Column Ever

cnn

CNN is irrelevant, and the SPLC should be recognized and branded in polite society as a “Hate group”

NRODavid French asks some good questions:

I’d like to thank Kevin Williamson for pointing us to perhaps the dumbest column I’ve ever read on CNN – an actual argument that allegedly “right-wing” extremists are more deadly than jihadists. In addition to Mr. Williamson’s spot-on critique, can we also say something else about jihad since 9/11? The death toll in the U.S. may be “only” 21, but the American toll overseas is at least 6,802 with well over 50,000 injuries, including 16,000 serious injuries. Peter Bergen evidently does not think this important enough to explore, but in the aftermath of the actual worst terrorist attack in American history we engaged in direct combat against jihadists in two separate countries, combat that continues in Afghanistan to this day. In that process, these jihadists not only killed thousands of Americans, they inflicted an unholy death toll on allied soldiers and civilians.

Are these American lives any less precious or important because they were lost overseas? Does the fact that jihadists have proven capable of killing thousands of the best-equipped and best-trained soldiers in the world tell him anything about the destructive potential of jihad compared to the allegedly “right-wing” Klan? (read more)

Unmentioned in some of these critiques of the discredited CNN column: Since when is a KKK member a “right wing” figure? Except in the imagination of dishonest journalists and political propagandists? The Klan was the military-terror arm of the Democratic party in the south, this is not exactly news. The accusation that the KKK is connected to conservative or right-wing ideology is pure fantasy. The famous white supremacist, anti-Semitic murderer Frazier Glenn Millerran for public office as a Democrat.

On the other hand, Miller ran for office as both a Democrat and a Republican, making any effort to use his ideological profile to score political points a useless exercise, as the Daily Caller‘s Neil Munro reports:

The gunman who murdered three people in Kansas on Sunday was defeated in primary races in the Democratic and the Republican parties, which could complicate any partisan effort to associate either party with the unusual anti-Semitic attack.

Frazier Glenn Miller was reportedly arrested after the attacks in Kansas, which killed one Jewish woman, and two non-Jews, a grandfather and his 14 year-old grandson.

[REWIND] Dr. Ben Carson: White House Wanted Apology for ‘Offending’ Obama

Ben-Carson

“…I received a call from some of the prayer breakfast organizers saying that the White House was upset and requesting that I call the president and apologize for offending him.”

Flashback: The Prayer Breakfast Speech

For The Daily CallerAlex Pappas writes:  Neurosurgeon Ben Carson says the White House wanted him to apologize for “offending” President Obama after he famously delivered a conservative message at the National Prayer Breakfast last year.

Obama-incandescentCarson, the former director of pediatric neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital, recalls the events surrounding his 2013 speech in his new book, One Nation: What We Can All Do To Save America’s Future. The Daily Caller obtained an advance copy of the book, which is set for release May 20.

“He did not appear to be hostile or angry,” Carson writes of Obama, “but within a matter of minutes after the conclusion of the program, I received a call from some of the prayer breakfast organizers saying that the White House was upset and requesting that I call the president and apologize for offending him. I said that I did not think that he was offended and that I didn’t think that such a call was warranted.”

YOU DON’T SAY? Survey: U.S. Sees Sharpest Health Insurance Premium Increases

Obama-hmm

The Daily Caller‘s Sarah Hurtubise reports: Americans have recently been hit with some of the largest premium increases in years, according to a Morgan Stanley survey of insurance brokers.

The investment bank’s April survey of 148 brokers found that this quarter, the average premium increase for customers renewing an insurance plan is 12 percent in the small group market and 11 percent in the individual market, according to ForbesScott Gottlieb.

The hikes — the largest in the past three years, according to Morgan Stanley’s quarterly reports — are “largely due to changes under the [Affordable Care Act],” analysts concluded. Rates have been growing increasingly fast throughout all of 2013, after a period of drops in 2012.

[VIDEO] The Hammer: ‘Culture of Left Only Satisfied in Destroying People Who Oppose Them’

Charles Krauthammer calls for a counter-boycott of Mozilla

“This is the culture of the left not being satisfied with making an argument, or even prevailing in an argument, but in destroying personally and marginalizing people who oppose them…”

For The Daily CallerBrendan Bordelon reports:  Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer called for Americans to affect a “counter-boycott” of Mozilla after the company fired their CEO for donating to an anti-gay marriage campaign, calling the move “totalitarian discourse…”

“…This is totalitarian discourse, and it shows a level of intolerance that is absolutely — it should be unacceptable, and people ought to get what they’re giving out and field a counter-boycott.”

Krauthammer spoke on a Fox News panel with USA Today columnist Kirsten Powers and conservative kirsten-powers-smcolumnist George Will, discussing Brendan Eich’s dismissal from popular web browser provider Mozilla after activists discovered he donated $1,000 to California’s Prop 8 campaign — which made gay marriage illegal in the state. Many gay activists boycotted Mozilla, leading to Eich’s eventual termination.

[RELATED: Gay journalist Andrew Sullivan ‘disgusted’ by gay rights ‘fanaticism’ after Mozilla CEO resigns]

george-f-will-114x80Will noted that Eich’s dismissal is “an illustration of a new phenomenon. No one likes sore losers, but now we have sore winners. The gay rights movement is winning — particularly with regard to same-sex marriage — with a speed and breadth that simply takes your breath away . . . Yet unsatisfied with victory, they seem to want to stamp out and punish people for their previous views.” Read the rest of this entry »

More Paranoia & Propaganda from the White Privilege Conference : Tea Party = RACISM

robertsoave-1630136872-iconBobby Soave reports: Not only are all members of the Tea Party movement racists, but the longer a person associates with the Tea Party, the more racist he becomes — according to a speaker at the National White Privilege Conference, which was held in Madison, Wisconsin, last week.

“…the longer you are in the Tea Party, the more racist you become.”

— Race hustler Leonard Zeskind

Leonard Zeskind, an author and activist, hosted a session on the racist roots of the Teat Party, a limited government movement that returned the U.S. House of Representatives to Republican control in 2010.

“People who send their kids to private schools are also racists. People who disagree with President Obama are racists.”

In Zeskind’s view, the oppression of minorities is a central motivating principal of the Tea Party.

College Suspends Student for Asking Questions About Gun Control

community-college

robertsoave-1630136872-iconFor The Daily CallerRobby Soave writes: A Connecticut community college suspended a student veteran for his aggressive questioning of Democratic Gov. Dannel Malloy during a public forum, prompting a First Amendment advocacy group to condemn the college for its flagrant disrespect for free speech and due process.

The student, Nicholas Saucier, tried to get Malloy to answer questions about his support for gun control legislation, which has put Saucier’s ammunition manufacturing business in jeopardy. Saucier followed Malloy to his car after the governor finished speaking at a public forum at Asnuntuck Community College. The exchange took place in October of last year, and was captured on video.

Obama’s Anti-Gun Surgeon General Choice Has Some Questionable Credentials

REUTERS/Jason Reed

Half of the specialists at Obama Surgeon General pick’s own hospital finished residency before him

The Daily CallerPatrick Howley reports: President Obama’s pick to become the next U.S. Surgeon General might have to explain his credentials a bit. Half of the doctors who work in his specialty at his own hospital finished residency before him.

Dr. Vivek Murthy, 36, was nominated by President Obama for the Surgeon General post last November, but Democrats are backing off from his nomination reportedly due to his well-documented anti-gun advocacy. But his relative lack of medical experience might also come up in a confirmation hearing.

Murthy is listed as a Hospitalist and Hospitalist Service specialist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, having completed his residency in internal medicine there in 2006. Of the 42 listed Hospitalist Service specialists at Brigham and Women’s, 21 doctors finished residency before Murthy. Read the rest of this entry »

Are There Mini-Snowden’s Out There We Don’t Know About? HHS Official Resigns…

REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque

REUTERS/Kevin Lamarque

…Pens a Blistering Rebuke of Federal Bureaucracy

Mini-Snowden-MeYou know how Edward Snowden was like…a self-styled sleeper agent? A man with a mission, armed with high-level access to sensitive data, mad computer skillz, and a heroic fantasy of saving America from Orwellian tyranny?  Snowden’s super-secret access to the bottomless pit of NSA misdeeds made him the most dangerous man in the intelligence universe. It’s Snowden’s world now, and we’re just living in it.

But…what if the Snowden phenomenon wasn’t just a freak one-time thing? What if he’s not alone? What if there there are mini-Snowdens out there, too, that we don’t know about? Sleeper-agent bureaucrats, working at mid-level jobs in dull, badly-managed government agencies, enduring the daily humiliations of the typical office worker, harboring score-settling whistleblower fantasies? And what if they’re only one coffee break away from flipping out, and going all Jason Bourne on their employers? Who else might be on the verge of busting out?

We might just have our mini-whistleblower. At HHS…

The Daily Caller‘s Caroline May reports:

A Health and Human Services official has resigned after dealing with the frustration of the “profoundly dysfunctional” federal bureaucracy, which left him “offended as an American taxpayer.”

In a resignation letter obtained by ScienceInsider, David Wright, director of the Office of Research Integrity (ORI) — which oversees and monitors possible research misconduct — offers a scathing rebuke of the unwieldy and inefficient bureaucracy that he dealt with for the two years he served in the position.

“…the federal bureaucracy — at least the part I’ve labored in — is so profoundly dysfunctional. I’m hardly the first person to have made that discovery…”

In his letter to Assistant Secretary for Health Howard Koh, Wright explains that the 35 percent of his job that was spent working with science-investigators in his department “has been one of the great pleasures of my long career.” The majority of his duties, however, represented his worst job ever.

“…my role as ORI Director has been the very worst job I have ever had…I knew coming into this job about the bureaucratic limitations of the federal government, but I had no idea how stifling it would be.”

Former ThinkProgress writer: ‘White House Censored Us’, Describes ‘Suffocating Pressure’’

WhiteHouseSouth

The Daily Caller‘s Brendan Bordelon reports:  Zaid Jilani, a former blogger with the left-wing think tank Center for American Progress, explained this week how the Obama administration frequently tries to censor the progressive organization’s content when it departs from the White House’s agenda.

[Order Deadly Censorship: Murder, Honor, and Freedom of the Press from Amazon]

Jiliani was reacting to two on-air protests by journalists opposed to Russia’s invasion of southern Ukraine. The two worked for Russia Today (RT) — an English-speaking media outlet funded directly by Moscow — and felt their bosses were trying to censor their opinions

“Essentially, they were doing the same thing to us RT America is telling its American producers to do now — align with your boss, who is the president of the country.”

In a post titled, ”How Working in Washington Taught Me We’re All A Little Like RT America,” Jilani explained how the White House frequently played the part of the Kremlin — leaning on management to push their writers in a particular direction, and punishing them if they strayed from the party line.

“Phone calls from the White House started pouring in,” Jilani claimed, “berating my bosses for being critical of Obama on this policy…”

“I’m writing this post to explain how working in Washington taught me we’re all a little bit like the good folks who work at RT America,” Jilani explained, “struggling against editorial censors, doing our best to follow our conscience despite sometimes suffocating pressures from our publishers and sponsors.” Read the rest of this entry »

Democratic Congressman: My Wife Beat Me Up

congressman-grayson

It could be true, as much as I hate to give any credit to Alan Grayson. If you were his wife, Lolita Grayson (great name, isn’t it?) and had to live with this guy, wouldn’t you want to slap him upside the head?

The Daily Caller‘s Patrick Howley writes:

Democratic Rep. Alan Grayson’s lawyers claimed that Grayson was the victim of domestic violence and not the perpetrator.

Grayson’s wife Lolita accused Grayson of pushing her against a door and injuring her during a confrontation that occurred at the Graysons’ home near Windermere, Fla., Saturday.

Grayson called the allegation “an outright lie.” An Orange County Sheriff’s Office investigation is underway.

Here’s a local news report that includes some of the cell phone video footage:

…Grayson’s attorney Mark NeJame said at a press conference Wednesday that Lolita assaulted the congressman and not the other way around…

Boeing’s Black Smartphone for Spies Self-Destructs to Save Secrets

myce-boeing-black-android-smartphone

“Any attempt to break open the casing of the device would trigger functions that would delete the data and software contained within the device and make the device inoperable.”

Peter-GravesGiuseppe Macri  reports:  Leading avionics technology developer and manufacturer Boeing is breaking into the smartphone market with “Black” – a Mission Impossible-worthy device that self-destructs if an attempt is made to breach its security.

“Boeing’s Black phone will be sold primarily to government agencies and companies engaged in contractual activities with those agencies that are related to defense and homeland security,” Legal counsel for Boeing Bruce Olcott wrote in the company’s detailed letter to the FCC earlier this month, asking the agency to keep the phone’s specs secret. “The device will be marketed and sold in a manner such that low-level technical and operational information about the product will not be provided to the general public.”

Black will run on an Android operating system as a “sealed device” requiring a non-disclosure agreement to be signed for use. Read the rest of this entry »

[VIDEO] $180,000 in Taxpayer Money Swallowed in Corvette Museum Sinkhole

The Daily Caller‘s  writes:  “The Museum paid more than $200k out of pocket as it was a matching grant,” she explained in an email. “With these simulators we offer free teen driving courses, international driving courses, older driver courses through the NCM Drivers’ Safety Academy.”

Frassinelli added that the simulators offer the capability for people to practice things that cannot be road tested, like dealing with a blow out tire and wheel drop off, as well as different weather conditions.

Last week the National Corvette Museum made headlines when a sinkhole formed under the facility and swallowed eight of the cars in the museum…
