Ferguson, Missouri, police officer shot, official says

A Ferguson, Missouri, police officer was shot Saturday evening, according to St. Louis County Police spokesman Brian Schellman.

The officer was shot in the arm. His injuries are non-life-threatening and he is in the hospital, said Ferguson police spokesman Tim Zoll.

Police said that the officer was shot near the Ferguson community center, an area which has not been the focus of protests over the Michael Brown shooting.

The suspect remains at large, he said.

Police from multiple forces in the area responded to the scene on West Florissant Road, set up a staging area, KMOV reported…(more)

Heather Mac Donald on Obama’s Shameful New Low: Comparing American Cops with Islamic Terrorists

barack-obama-un_3048940b

The idea that the Ferguson riots were the result of a predatory police force tantamount to sectarian murderers in the Middle East is a poisonous calumny. The threat to America’s blacks comes almost exclusively from other blacks, not from the police.

President Obama has announced to the world that America’s police officers are as disruptive to civil society as Middle Eastern beheaders and Russian-backed rebels.

Ferguson-police-chief-marches-with-protesters-calling-for-his-resignation

“Obama is right about one thing: the world did take notice of the Ferguson riots, which were covered obsessively by CNN International, desperate to play up every wisp of alleged racism it could find.”

…Even a local newspaper in Salzburg, Austria, carried a fawning profile of America’s first black attorney general, Eric Holder, and his fight against police racism.

obama-toast-UN

“This last Saturday, a 14-year-old girl was killed on the streets of Paterson, New Jersey, in a drive-by gang shooting. She is the sixth homicide death in the area since a 12-year-old girl was shot in the head while riding a scooter in July…Obama and Eric Holder will have nothing to say about these homicides…”

All the more important, then, for Obama to set the record straight. The idea that the Ferguson riots were the result of a predatory police force tantamount to sectarian murderers in the Middle East is a poisonous calumny. The threat to America’s blacks comes almost exclusively from other blacks, not from the police.

Obama-UN-desk

“…In fact, the only government representatives who work day in and day out to stop the black bloodbath are police officers.”

Every year, thousands of African Americans are gunned down by other African Americans, with no attention from the media and local government officials. The homicide death rate for blacks in Los Angeles, for example, like in most other American cities, is ten times that for whites.

“Few are the departments that don’t try to forge bonds with their communities but their officers are still met with resistance, abuse, and hatred from criminals and their associates, and from ordinary people who have been fed a steady diet of anti-police propaganda.”

It’s not whites or police officers who are gunning down black Angelenos, it’s other blacks, killing in cold blood, also at ten times the rate of white and Hispanic homicide commission combined. Read the rest of this entry »

Poll: Black & White Ferguson Residents Agree, Media Made Things Worse, But Fear Not! HuffPo Taps Readers to Raise Funds for MORE MEDIA COVERAGE OF FERGUSON

yolo-boutique-kerry-picket

“Like the race-baiting locusts from Hell they are, the mainstream media descended on Ferguson, Missouri, to exploit a vacuum of information with rabid speculation intended to foment violence and divide along racial lines.”

John Nolte reports: In a new poll, 81% of whites and 50% of blacks agreed that the media presence in the wake of the shooting of Michael Brown by a Ferguson police officer, made things worse. Only 12% of whites believe the media made things better; only 37% of blacks said the same.

This comes as no surprise. Without any facts to back up their black vs. white narrative, the media intentionally whipped up racial animosity and offered the imprimatur of ABC, CNN, NBC, ABC, The Washington Post, Huffington Post, The New York Times, to looters, vandals and rioters….(read more)

The Huffington Post successfully recruited readers to pay the salary of one of their reporters for a year.

In a separate Breitbart.com post,  reports: Using an unorthodox funding strategy, the online news outlet teamed up with Beaconreader.com to back the hiring of a special reporter to cover the story of Ferguson, Missouri after reporters left the scene where Michael Brown was shot to death by a police officer.

“We suspected our audience would see the value in having a reporter on the ground in Ferguson, but were blown away by the response.”

The article was published on National Report, a satirical website.

“Florida neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman, who was acquitted in July of 2013 of all charges related to the shooting death of Trayvon Martin, was arrested Wednesday morning in Ferguson, Missouri after an altercation outside of a Dunkin’ Donuts, where Zimmerman allegedly aimed a handgun at two black teenagers who confronted him,” the bogus article reads.

BREAKING: ‘Shot-in-the-Back-While-Fleeing’ Narrative Up in Smoke: Autopsy Shows Michael Brown Was Struck at Least 6 Times

UPDATED: A private autopsy on the unarmed black teen who was shot by a white police officer in the St. Louis suburb of Ferguson, Mo. nine days ago suffered six gunshot wounds, including two in the head, according to a new report.

“We need more information; for example, the police should be examining the automobile to see if there is gunshot residue in the police car.”

The New York Times reported late Sunday that the autopsy was carried out at the request of Michael Brown’s family by Dr. Michael Baden, the former chief medical examiner for New York City.

Police Shooting Misso_Cham(8)360640

Baden told the Times that one of the bullets struck the top of Brown’s skull, suggesting that the 18-year-old’s head was bent forward when he was shot. The doctor added that four of the six shots struck Brown in the right arm, and all the bullets entered from the teen’s front. Only three of the bullets were recovered from Brown’s body.

Baden did not have access to Brown’s clothes, which may have gunpowder residue on them if the bullets were fired from close range. Baden also did not have access to X-rays that may have shown where the bullets were found, nor did he see any witness or police statements.  Read the rest of this entry »

FERGUSON, Mo.—Rage over the death of an unarmed black teenager by a white police officer sparked another early morning of bloodshed and mayhem after protesters and police clashed Sunday.

“If we are going to have justice, we must first have and maintain peace.”

— Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon

By the time the smoke and tear gas cleared, one person was listed in critical condition with gunshot injuries. Seven protesters had been arrested for failing to disperse, police said at a news conference about 2:30 a.m. local time.

Police said they didn’t know who was responsible for the shooting, which is under investigation. They didn’t immediately release details about the victim. It didn’t appear to be a police-involved shooting, authorities said.

“While protesters chanted “no justice, no curfew,” police used a loudspeaker to warn the crowd that they were in violation of a state-imposed curfew.”

State Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson said the violent encounter between police and protesters didn’t happen because authorities were attempting to enforce a new, midnight-to-5-a.m. curfew.

Instead, he said, SWAT teams in at least three armored vehicles moved in only after they had reports of troublemakers at Redz Barbeque restaurant, near the site of prior looting. Most of the protesters heeded warnings and left the site of weeklong protest over the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown by a police officer. Read the rest of this entry »

A Nick Gillespie moment

TIME

Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old, shot to death in Ferguson, Missouri, by police. Eric Garner, a 43-year-old New Yorker, dies from a police chokehold. John Crawford III, 22, shot and killed by police in a Walmart outside of Dayton, Ohio.

Enough is enough. Each of these incidents has an unmistakable racial dimension—all of the victims were black and all or most of arresting officers were white–that threatens the always tense relationships between law enforcement and African Americans. As important, the circumstances of each death are hotly contested, with the police telling one story and witnesses (if any) offering up very different narratives.

Brown’s death in particular is raising major ongoing protests precisely because, contrary to police accounts, witnesses claim that he had his hands up in the air in surrender when he was shot. The result is less trust in police, a situation that raises tensions across the board.

FERGUSON, Mo. — The police chief in the St. Louis suburb where an officer fatally shot an unarmed teenager identified the officer on Friday as Darren Wilson.

“We’re here to serve and protect. We’re not here to instill fear.”

— Highway Patrol Capt. Ron Johnson

Ferguson Police Chief Thomas Jackson made the announcement after initially declining to the release the name, saying the officer had received numerous death threats. The officer has been on administrative leave since the shooting Saturday of 18-year-old Michael Brown, whose death has sparked several days of clashes with furious protesters.

But on Thursday, county police in riot gear and armored tanks gave way to state troopers walking side-by-side with thousands of peaceful protesters. The dramatic shift came after Gov. Jay Nixon assigned oversight of the protests to the state Highway Patrol, stripping that authority from the St. Louis County Police Department.

Michael Brown was a robbery suspect before he was shot to death, police say

CNN reports: Police named the officer involved in the shooting of Ferguson, Missouri, teenager Michael Brown on Friday, then released documents containing a bombshell: The 18-year-old was the “primary suspect” in the robbery of a convenience store moments before he was killed.

Officer Darren Wilson, a six-year veteran of the department, was responding to that call when he encountered Brown, police Chief Thomas Jackson told reporters.

According to the documents, Brown roughly handled a clerk trying to stop him before walking out of the store with a box of Swisher Sweets cigars…(read more)

The more tolerant response came as President Barack Obama spoke publicly for the first time about Saturday’s fatal shooting — and the subsequent violence that shocked the nation and threatened to tear apart Ferguson, a town of 21,000 that is nearly 70 percent black and patrolled by a nearly all-white police force.
