Police Brilliantly Employ Anti-KKK Law to Arrest Mask-Wearing Anitfa Protestors

‘Remove your mask, or you will be arrested’

Greg Bluestein reports: Faced with hundreds of demonstrators rallying against a crowd of neo-Nazis in Newnan, local and state authorities turned to a little-known Georgia law adopted in 1951 to combat the Ku Klux Klan.

The law, which makes it illegal to wear a mask at most public events, was cited in several of the arrests of counterdemonstrators who joined a protest Saturday against white supremacists.

And the irony was not lost upon the organizers of the counterdemonstration, who were fuming Sunday that a law aimed at weakening white supremacists was used to arrest protesters who opposed a neo-Nazi rally.

“They were trying to stop us, and we were trying to dial down the racist stuff,” said Jeremy Ortega, a 19-year-old who was among the counterprotesters charged with a misdemeanor for wearing a mask.

He said many of the demonstrators wore masks to avoid being identified and threatened by white power groups.

“The law, which makes it illegal to wear a mask at most public events, was cited in several of the arrests of counterdemonstrators who joined a protest Saturday against white supremacists.”

“We were peacefully protesting, yet they put guns in our faces and told us to take our masks off,” said Ortega, who added that he is considering filing a civil lawsuit. “It made no sense.”

State and local authorities did not comment on specific allegations of abuse on Sunday. But Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Vernon Keenan said the overwhelming security – nearly 700 law enforcement officers were on hand – helped prevent the clashes from escalating.

“Making arrests in a volatile situation is never going to be pretty,” Keenan said.

No one from the white supremacist group was arrested on Saturday, and they largely avoided confrontations with police or the counterdemonstration group. The two dozen white supremacists who attended the rally were separated from the group by an 8-foot fence – and hundreds of armed officers.

‘Remove your mask’

On Sunday, a coalition of counterprotest groups planned a vigil at the Coweta County Jail to criticize what they said was excessive violence by police.

The Huffington Post reported that a contingent of officers approached a group of 50 counterdemonstrators before the rally and demanded they remove their masks or face arrests. The news outlet wrote that officers then “grabbed those who were still masked, tossing them to the ground and handcuffing them.” Read the rest of this entry »

A Georgia mom who police say hosted a party for teenagers that included alcohol, drugs, sex and “naked Twister” has beenshocked-mom
sentenced to probation, reports CBS affiliate WRDW.

Rachel Lehnardt, 35, allegedly confessed to her Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor that she lost custody of five children after the April 2015 party at her Evans home. Police say she allowed her 16-year-old daughter and the teen’s friends to drink alcohol and smoke marijuana.

A police report alleged Lehnardt participated in a game of “naked Twister” before having sex with an 18-year-old boy in a bathroom, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported at the time. Police said Lenhardt admitted to lewd acts in front of the group. They also allege Lenhardt said she fell asleep and woke up to find her daughters’ boyfriend, 16, having sex with her, the paper reported.

Why Freddy’s Barbecue Couldn’t Really Exist

writes: Between taking bites out of his political opponents, Frank Underwood, in the first two seasons of Netflix’s “House of Cards,” liked to visit a hole-in-the-wall barbecue joint called Freddy’s. Freddy’s BBQ is fictional and the 100-best-bbqshow used a shack in Baltimore for the set.

[Check out Johnny Fugitt’s book “The 100 Best Barbecue Restaurants in America” at Amazon.com]

DC tourists may be disappointed to learn they cannot sample Frank’s favorite ribs, but the most disappointing fact is not that Freddy’s is fictional. The sad truth is that Freddy’s could simply not exist in DC or in most major cities today.

While researching barbecue restaurants for my recently released book, The 100 Best Barbecue Restaurants in America I visited 365 barbecue restaurants across 48 states. Many owners shared with me that their businesses are hampered by local environmental, safety, and health regulations

No Tasty Barbecue For You

In Houston, for example, Pizzitola’s Barbecue hangs its hat on being the only remaining Houston barbecue restaurant to cook with a traditional open pit. Pizzitola’s has been smoking barbecue this way for 50 years and was grandfathered into the local safety law banning their traditional method of smoking meat.

“The White Swan came under federal regulations and were required to use electric cookers rather than continuing to smoke as they had for generations.”

As newer barbecue restaurants popped up just outside city limits, Houston lost tax revenue and residents had to leave the city for great barbecue—everyone lost.

Houston lost tax revenue and residents had to leave the city for great barbecue—everyone lost.

“Today, cities require restaurants to invest tens, if not hundreds, of thousands of dollars in safety hoods and equipment.”

It might seem unfair for Pizzitola’s to have such an exemption and, thus, an advantage over their competition, but it’s actually a blessing and a curse. If Pizzitola’s were to make any major changes to the restaurant—like adding a patio or dining-room space—they would lose their grandfathered-in status.

obama-lunch-at-BBQ

Pizzitola’s cannot adapt to compete with other restaurants because this risks losing the way they have been preparing barbecue for 50 years. Eventually this handicap will catch up to them.

No More Opportunities For the Little Guys

Although local regulations have done the most damage, federal regulations are also to blame. From the 1940s until 2009, The White Swan smoked traditional North Carolina pork over smoldering oak.

“It was a shame to see a historic, small town, family-run barbecue joint forced to serve cooked pork rather than traditional smoked barbecue simply to comply with federal food regulations.”

When they franchised in 2009 (and created a number of new jobs), The White Swan came under federal regulations and were required to use electric cookers rather than continuing to smoke as they had for generations.  It was a shame to see a historic, small town, family-run barbecue joint forced to serve cooked pork rather than traditional smoked barbecue simply to comply with federal food regulations. Rachel Lehnardt Update: Sex-In-Bathroom ‘Naked Twister’ Party Mom ‘Remorseful’

150416-rachel-lehnardt

EVANS, Ga. (WSBTV.com)— A Georgia mother accused of having sex with two teenagers during a party that involved alcohol, pot and naked Twister says she’s remorseful about what happened.
T3LzzXw
Deputies say Rachel Lenhardt, 35, hosted the party and gave drugs and alcohol to her teenage daughter and her friends.

“She was arrested for furnishing alcohol and marijuana to at least two 16-year-olds. That was not just what the AA sponsor told us, but what was told to us was also corroborated by witnesses that were in the home.”

— Capt. Steve Morris of the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office

The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office says Lenhardt’s Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor told authorities about the party.

An AA sponsor unrelated to the case said the organization focuses on telling the truth. He believes that’s why Lenhardt’s sponsor had no choice but to turn to police when Lenhardt allegedly shared details of the party with her.

“We believe in honesty,” he said. “Most likely the sponsor will guide the sponsee to go ahead and take care of the issue.”

The details laid out in a Columbia County incident report are disturbing. The AA sponsor claims Lenhardt opened up during a sobriety conversation about why she lost custody of her five children.

Lenhardt’s attorney released a statement saying that Lenhardt acknowledges that she acted inappropriately and is remorseful. In the statement below, her attorney also says many of the allegations are exaggerated.

“Mrs. Lehnardt acknowledges that due to recent alcohol abuse she engaged in several acts of inappropriate conduct.  Although, many of the allegations are exaggerated, she is extremely remorseful for what she allowed to occur in her presence and is obtaining professional and pastoral counseling to ensure that this conduct is never repeated.  Mrs. Lehnardt intends to fully cooperate with the legal naked-twister-mom-smsystem to accept complete responsibility for her conduct and to fully atone for her actions.  However, at not time did Mrs. Lehnardt sponsor or facilitate a party for underage minors.

Mrs. Lehnardt has recommitted herself to her faith and her family.  She is hopeful that her children, members of her faith and others will learn from her poor example as to just how easy it is for people to exercise such extremely poor judgment while intoxicated.

In regards to the connection this case has with Alcoholics Anonymous, Mrs. Lehnardt continues to participate in and strongly believes in the program.  She truly regrets any negative media coverage that this matter may have had on the organization.”

The report states Lenhardt told the sponsor that she allowed her 16-year-old daughter and friends to party at her Evans, Georgia home with drugs and alcohol. Read the rest of this entry »

Rachel Lehnardt Loses 5 Kids Over ‘Naked Twister’ Sex Party with Daughter’s Friends

35-year-old Georgia mother has lost custody of her five children after being arrested for allegedly hosting a ‘naked Twister’ party for her teenage daughter and joining in the festivities

Michael Winter reports: A 35-year-old Georgia mother has lost custody of her five children after police say she hosted a sex party for her teenage daughter. Rachel Lehnardt is accused of joining the teens in sex, drugs and naked Twister.

A 35-year-old Georgia mother has lost custody of her five children after being arrested for allegedly hosting a party for her teenage daughter and joining in the festivities, which featured booze, pot, sex, a hot tub and naked Twister.

Rachel Lehnardt was charged with two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor for the party at her home in Evans, an Augusta suburb. She was arrested Monday after her new Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor alerted the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office on Saturday following a meeting with Lehnardt, who is divorcing her husband, an Iraq war veteran.

150416-rachel-lehnardt

The sponsor said Lehnardt told her she had lost custody of the children — ages 4, 6, 8, 10 and 16 — at an emergency hearing April 6 after her husband learned about the party. The sheriff’s report did not indicate when it occurred.

The children were with their father one night when the 16-year-old daughter texted her mother to ask if she and some friends could come over “to party,” according to the sponsor’s account.

“Come on, let’s party,” Lehnardt replied.

The teens drank alcohol and smoked marijuana, Lehnardt said she joined them playing naked Twister, her sponsor told investigators. She then had sex in the bathroom with an 18-year-old boy, and afterward used sex toys in front of the teens before everyone piled into her hot tub, where “the party continued.”

The sponsor said Lenhardt later recounted waking up at 3:30 a.m. to discover her daughter’s 16-year-old boyfriend having sex with her. She said her daughter “felt guilty,” explaining that if she could have accommodated his large penis “he wouldn’t have needed to rape her mother.” Read the rest of this entry »

Interview with Mikheil Saakashvili: Lessons From the Putin Wars

Ken Fallin

Georgia’s former president, who has seen first-hand the sort of trouble the Kremlin is causing in Ukraine, on what to do about Moscow’s threat

For the Wall Street JournalMatthew Kaminski writes:  Between barricades of tires and impromptu memorials to the victims of Ukraine’s revolution, Mikheil Saakashvili stops to pose for pictures and shake hands. “You showed us how to fight Russia,” says a gray-haired man in a camouflage jacket, embracing him on Institutska Street, a front line in last week’s climactic clashes in the capital.

As the former president of the ex-Soviet nation of Georgia, Mr. Saakashvili certainly knows all about confronting Russia and Vladimir Putin. He also lost a chunk of his country in the process. Now he is here in Ukraine, a country he knows well from his youth, to advise its new leaders on how they can revive the economy as well as keep their nation intact from Russian’s potentially crippling intervention.

Mr. Saakashvili studied law and served in the Soviet military in Kiev, altogether for seven years. He has many friends and knows the major politicians, who seek out his advice.

Winter Storm Pax Updates: Hundreds of Thousands Lose Power; Traffic Snarls; Northeast Braces for Storm

e9393532-ee01-4008-9700-003d820b5ece_650x366

Winter Storm Pax continued its second wave of wintry weather Wednesday, dumping freezing rain and sleet across a wide area that could experience catastrophic conditions for a prolonged period of time.

In North Carolina, snowfall led to a disastrous commute Wednesday afternoon in Raleigh and Charlotte. Cars slid off roads and heavy traffic led to gridlock, forcing some drivers to sit in hours of slow commutes or abandon their cars.

(FORECASTWinter Storm Pax | Live Updates on the Storm)

The National Weather Service also warned to “expect significant – crippling – ice totals from Atlanta eastward along the I-20 corridor.” In the Carolinas, snow fell Wednesday in areas expecting to see as much as 18 inches of accumulation from Pax.

[75% Off Men’s Jackets and Coats at Amazon]

At least 14 deaths have been blamed on the storm: two in North Carolina, one in South Carolina, two in Mississippi, two in Georgia and seven in Texas. More than 3,000 flights were canceled Wednesday in the U.S., with many more flight cancellations expected Thursday. More than 400,000 customers lost power across the Southeast Wednesday.

Next up, Pax is hitting parts of the mid-Atlantic and Northeast Wednesday and into Thursday, closing schools and disrupting travel plans across the region.

Real Life Breaking Bad? Banker Pleads Not Guilty to Fraud Charges

breaking-bad-real

Okay so Aubrey Lee Price isn’t a teacher-turned meth-cooking criminal mastermind bent on building an empire, leaving a trail of dead bodies in his murderous wake, like fictional character Walter White. But he is an example of a white-collar average joe who went dark. No longer content with middle-class aspirations and conventional morality, Price used his professional knowledge for criminal gain, embezzled a fortune, and tried to go off the grid. With millions stolen from investors, Price attempted to screw the system by pretending to be dead.

This meets punditfromanotherplanet’s standard, and serves as a working definition of a real life Breaking Bad scenario. Do you know of any Breaking Bad situations that happened in real life? Send them to editor@punditfromanotherplanet.com

Russ Bynum (AP) reports: A former Georgia banker accused of stealing millions from investors before vanishing for 18 months pleaded not guilty Wednesday to federal bank fraud charges and agreed to remain jailed without bond pending trial.

Aubrey Lee Price, 47, didn’t speak as he sat hunched between his court-appointed lawyer and an attorney who’s a family friend and has agreed to assist with his case for free. Though prosecutors say he misspent, embezzled and lost $21 million, Price was able to show the court that he doesn’t have enough money to hire a lawyer, said U.S. Magistrate Judge G.R. Smith.

Authorities say Price faked financial records in an attempt to cover his tracks before he disappeared in June 2012. He sent letters to his family and acquaintances saying he was “incapable of continuing in this life” and other strong hints that he planned to commit suicide. A Florida judge declared Price dead a year ago. Meanwhile, the Montgomery Bank & Trust, a rural bank near Vidalia at which Price served as a director since 2010, closed because its assets and reserves were depleted.

No More Success Stories: Students Protest ‘Excellence for Social Justice Week’

crying college student

Because it might make unsuccessful students feel bad

Kyle Becker reports:  Life is truly beginning to imitate art. According to prevailing progressive “wisdom,” success is just becoming downright… unfair. The University of Georgia’s Student Government Association (SGA) held an unusual “dinner and dialogue” during Social Justice Week in opposition to the notion of “success stories.

The event “No More Success Stories: Dinner, Dialogue, Making A Difference” was scheduled for October 23rd (pace the flyer), and listed panelists for the “final event of Raise Your Hand for Equality!” Day at the U. of Georgia. The premise of the forum is that minority “success stories” diminish the stature of other minorities. The flyer, for example, features the openly gay CNN news anchor Anderson Cooper in the background, and poses: “1 in a Million Means 999,999 left behind.” Read the rest of this entry »
