How Much Renters Need to Make to Afford a Two-Bedroom Apartment in Each State

american-dream-threat

reports: A recent poll conducted by The National Low Income Housing Coalition compared the average renter’s wage in each U.S. state to the wage needed to afford an average two-bedroom apartment.

The Out of Reach study, which came out in May, found that there are a considerable number of states where average workers simply cannot afford to rent two-bedrooms.

SCANDAL! ThinkProgress Exposes National Review for Smearing Hawaii Democrat

shocker!

The National Review magazine described Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) as “exotic” and “beautiful” in an article about her stances on foreign policy, ThinkProgress reported on Thursday.

The National Review made mention of what it called Gabbard’s “exotic background,” using the fact that she was born in American Samoa and is Hindu. It also strongly focused on her looks with a headline that read: “Meet the Beautiful, Tough Young Democrat Who’s Turning Heads by Challenging Obama’s Foreign Policy.”

“She’s young, she’s hip, and she’s beautiful,” the article said. “She’s also a combat veteran and a Democrat.” Read the rest of this entry »

‘Clouds of Intellectual Self-Regard’

“Obama entered the presidency trailing clouds of intellectual self-regard. His carefully cultivated persona was of a uniquely thoughtful, judicious, deliberative, evidence-driven man comfortable with complexity. The protracted consideration of Keystone supposedly displayed these virtues.”

赤身裸体在中国!Rebel China Nudists Defy Communist Party Ban on Nakedness

chinese-communist-naked-daydreams

“Many female tourists felt too awkward to approach the beach.”

Just months after a police crackdown on China’s top nudist destination, naturists ‘flout’ government rules which outlaw skinny dipping and naked sunbathing

For the TelegraphTom Phillips, Shanghai reports: Renegade nudists have defied a Communist Party ban on nakedness by flocking to a tropical beach in southern China without their swimming trunks.

Dozens of naked bathers bared all on Dadonghai beach, a 1.4-mile stretch of sand known as China’s premier nudist destination, over the recent holiday weekend.

“The illicit display of buttocks brought a swift government response.”

“Photographs published on Chinese websites showed large groups of naked men smoking cigarettes and reclining on towels on the beach.”

Men “in various states of undress” had been spotted on the seafront, according to a report in the Shanghai Daily newspaper – “some naked, some with their underpants half stripped down”.

United Flight Over Pacific Ocean Makes Emergency Landing, Burning Smell Reported

disturbing-odor-diverts-flight-to-island

CNN WIRE SERVICE reports: A youngster described on social media how “something was on fire” on a harrowing United Airlines flight Friday over the Pacific Ocean that the FAA said was forced to land on Midway Island because of an electrical odor on board.

The United Airlines plane, carrying 335 passengers and 13 crew on a Boeing 777, was flying from Honolulu to Guam when it was forced to land and spend seven hours on the Pacific atoll, said United spokeswoman Mary Clark. A replacement aircraft later carried everyone back to Hawaii on Friday, she said.

When explicitly asked Saturday whether the disturbing smell was smoke or something burning, Clark described the incident as an odor in the cabin.

But one passenger, a minor, tweeted about parts of the incident, including how the “flight attendant said there’s a burning smell in the cockpit…. (expletive) what?”

At one point, the plane dipped dramatically, he said. Read the rest of this entry »

NASA Launches Flying Saucer for Tests of Mars Entry Technology

For CBS Space News, William Harwood writes: A giant helium balloon lifted a 3.5-ton flying saucer-shaped research vehicle to an altitude of more than 23 miles Saturday and released it for a dramatic rocket-powered boost through the extreme upper atmosphere to test an inflatable doughnut-like braking system and a huge supersonic parachute needed for future missions to Mars.

The inflatable aero-brake appeared to work normally in live video downlinked from the test vehicle, but the parachute, the largest ever built for deployment at more than twice the speed of sound, failed to fully inflate in a disappointment for flight controllers with NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

“PI (principle investigator) has called ‘no chute.’ We don’t have full chute inflation,” a flight controller reported.

The Low-Density Supersonic Decelerator then fell toward impact in the Pacific Ocean northwest of Hawaii. The carrier balloon apparently came apart after the LDSD’s release and it was not immediately clear what recovery crews standing by in the landing zone might be able to retrieve.

In any case, the test flight appeared to meet all of its major objectives but one and engineers are hopeful recorded telemetry will shed light on what went wrong with the parachute deploy. Read the rest of this entry »

[REWIND] The Audacity of Obama’s Sneering Tribute to Ronald Reagan

reagan-choomgang

For Breitbart.comCharles Hurt writes:

In his memoir called “The Audacity of Hope,” Obama wrote sneeringly…

“As disturbed as I might have been by Ronald Reagan’s election in 1980, as unconvinced as I might have been of his John Wayne, Father Knows Best pose, his policy by anecdote, and his gratuitous assaults on the poor, I understood his appeal.”

“It was the same appeal that the military bases back in Hawaii always held for me as a boy, with their tidy streets and well-oiled machinery, the crisp uniforms and crisper salutes.”

To Renegade, Rawhide was nothing more than a John Wayne pose. The United States military a quaint little sanctuary for cowardly weenies afraid of disorder and untidiness. Our American might and uniform to him are nothing more than a well-played basketball game from which he returns home momentarily happy or sad that his team won or lost.

Sneer all you want…But never forget this…you and your silly “choom gang” have not the faintest clue the principle and sacrifice most in the military and their families lay out every day….(read more)

Documents: Obamas Honolulu, Africa Flights Cost Taxpayers Nearly $16 million

reports: New Air Force documents show that the tab to taxpayers for recent trips President Obama and his family took to Africa and Honolulu was nearly $16 million – and that’s just for the flights.

The documents obtained by activist group Judicial Watch show the Africa trip required 35.5 flight hours. At a cost of $228,288 per flight hour, the total cost was a staggering $8,104,224.

For the Obamas’ Christmas vacation in Honolulu, starting in December 2013 and ending in January 2014, the documents, obtained under the Freedom of Information Act, show the first family accumulated 36.9 total flight hours. At a cost of $210,877 per flight hour, the flight costs alone for that trip totaled $7,781,361.30, according to the Air Force documents.

Hawaii Now a Shall-Issue State

awaiidefensefoundation.org

awaiidefensefoundation.org

Gun owners (or law nerds) will be familiar with the distinction between “may issue” and “shall issue”. It’s an important distinction (worthy of a post dedicated to that topic) that’s essential to understanding concealed carry laws, fortunately, it’s outlined here. Is your state a “shall issue” state? If not, it should be.

woman-gun-practice

For NRO’s  The Corner, Charles C. W. Cooke reports:

Hawaii, a state that has long been disgraced by some of the strictest gun-control laws in the country, now has “shall-issue” concealed-carry — for now, at least. Per Guns.com:

In a decision released Thursday by the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, in the case of Baker v. Kealoha, the court followed the lead of the recent Peruta case to declare Hawaii’s restrictions on firearms carry unconstitutional under the Second Amendment.

The case was heard by the same trio of judges who sat on the earlier Peruta and Richards cases in California, which challenged the state’s restrictive ‘may issue’ policies that required concealed carry permit applicants to show “good cause” to warrant a permit. The judges, Diarmuid O’Scannlain, Sidney Thomas and Consuelo Callahan, heard Baker in December 2013 and issued their findings Thursday…

CHOOM DOOM: Obama’s High School Pot Dealer Savagely Beaten to Death With Hammer, Tabloid-Style, By Gay Lover

Richard Alleyne In Honolulu, Hawaii:  President Obama’s high school pot dealer who he thanked in his yearbook for the ‘good times’ was beaten to death by his lover after a series of fights over flatulence and drugs, MailOnline can reveal today.

Privileged: Devere's current wife Elizabeth suggested that rich people have 'the right tools' to deal with taking drugs, but those like Devere, a former male prostitute, didn't and they 'subtract from the good'

Privileged: Devere’s current wife Elizabeth suggested that rich people have ‘the right tools’ to deal with taking drugs, but those like Devere, a former male prostitute, didn’t and they ‘subtract from the good’

Raymond Boyer, known as ‘Gay Ray’ to Obama and his marijuana smoking ‘Choom Gang’, was bludgeoned to death with a hammer seven years after he sold the future president and his friends drugs.

Party bus: Obama and the Choom Gang used to go to parties in the hills in Ray's surf van (file photo) and get high. Weed was rife in Hawaii during the counter-culture years of the 1970s and often smoked openly

His lover Andrew Devere, a male prostitute, gave police a laundry list of reasons for the killing, including that Boyer, a surfer and unemployed chef, constantly put him down, made him beg for drugs and had a habit of breaking wind in his face.

Good times: Obama thanked Ray in his high school yearbook alongside his family and his Choom Gang buddies

Good times: Obama thanked Ray in his high school yearbook alongside his family and his Choom Gang buddies

Pot head: Obama and his ‘Choom Gang’ of privately-educated friends used to score drugs off Ray. Ray was murdered seven years after the gang left school by his lover for a myriad of bizarre and frankly petty reasons

The sordid end to the life of Boyer at 37 was in direct contrast to the young men he supplied drugs to who all went on to lead successful and productive lives.

Since getting high with Obama and his private school educated friends he lost his job as the manager of a local pizzeria and ended up on welfare living above a car repair shop.

The full extent of Ray’s grisly end and the bizarre reasons for it were set out in mitigation by Devere, who was jailed for life for the murder.

Appeal court documents from 1991, uncovered for the first time by MailOnline, reveal Devere killed Boyer on New Year’s Day 1986 because: Boyer was killing a friend of his by supplying that friend with drugs; Boyer embarrassed Devere and put him down in front of other people; Boyer had developed a habit of farting in Devere’s face; Boyer once attacked Devere with a knife, slicing Devere’s finger;Boyer made Devere beg for drugs.

Experiments: Obama, 18, who was only just beginning to explore his black roots – having been brought up by his white grandparents – was a leading member of a group called the Choom Gang

Finally, the documents say the last straw came on the morning that Devere killed Boyer when the victim had refused to give Devere money to buy medication to soothe the murderer’s sore throat.

Refreshed from $4 Million Hawaii Vacation, Obama Lectures on ‘Income Inequality’

obama-hawaii

Albert Merrick  reports:  Back from his $4 million Hawaii vacation, President Barack Obama seems poised to sound the populist trumpet in an effort to turn the page on 2013’s disastrous Obamacare rollout.

Many pundits are speculating that Obama, seeing the popularity of liberal populists like New York City Mayor Bill DeBlasio, will use the current debate over unemployment insurance to engage in more divisive rhetoric:

The Obama administration has set the stage for a push that could rekindle cries of class warfare — calling for renewed long-term unemployment benefits, a minimum wage increase and a campaign against what Democrats call “income inequality.”

Ahead of his multi-week, holiday vacation in Hawaii, President Obama pushed Congress to move forward on extending federal unemployment benefits that weren’t included in the budget deal Senate Democrats and House Republicans struck to fund the federal government for the next two years. The White House has scheduled an East Room event on Tuesday in which the president will appear with people who lost that insurance.

On Tuesday, that’s precisely what Obama did, trotting out unemployed people to push for another boost to unemployment benefits, and citing income inequality as the rationale.

National Lampoon’s ObamaCare Vacation

State exchange chiefs skip town, while Obama hires a hit man

President Obama has responded to the ObamaCare debacle by bringing in Beltway liberal mastermind John Podesta as a senior West Wing hand, and he promptly announced his arrival by likening House Republicans to “a cult worthy of Jonestown” in an interview with Politico. The states running their own insurance exchanges are exacting more accountability for their ObamaCare failures.

Enrollment and technical dysfunctions and security breaches akin to the 36 federal exchanges continue to beset Minnesota’s operation, called MNsure. On Tuesday, April Todd-Malmlov, the exchange’s executive director since 2011, resigned under political duress.

The state’s problems are severe—4,478 have selected a plan so far—but were not severe enough to disrupt her two-week vacation in Costa Rica late last month with her partner, James Golden, who runs the state’s Medicaid program. Amid a political uproar, upon Ms. Todd-Malmlov’s return she was forced out by Democratic Governor Mark Dayton.

[VIDEO] Mutliple State Exchanges Vulnerable to Wi-Fi Attack

This, from NRO. Boldly-featured on Drudge right now, too, here’s video:

Multiple state-run health-care exchanges are vulnerable to a type of Wi-Fi attack that can allow hackers to intercept usernames and passwords, KSTP, a Minnesota ABC affiliate, reports.

According to Mark Lanterman, the CEO and chief technology officer of Computer Forensic Services who ran the simulated attack for KSTP, state-run exchanges in Minnesota, Hawaii, Nevada, Colorado, New Mexico, New York, Maryland, and the District of Columbia are vulnerable to it.

Lanterman tested at least a dozen of the state-run exchanges to determine if they had the vulnerability. Kentucky, Rhode Island, Vermont, Massachusetts, and California did not. HealthCare.gov, the federal exchange, also is not vulnerable to the attack.

A former Hawaii resident is under arrest in San Diego, accused of threatening to kill Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard.

Aniruddha Sherbow was arrested in Tijuana Mexico Wednesday and brought to San Diego. The 43 year old wrote a letter to the FBI and also included the media. The text is vulgar and racist at times.

“We all have our limits, and I have reached mine. At this point, if you stuck Tulsi’s head in front of me, I’d have it off in two seconds flat,” wrote Sherbow, in the email.

Welfare: A Better Deal than Work

America’s public-assistance system pays many people better than the jobs they’d otherwise have.

National Review Online

By  Michael Tanner

Suppose someone offered you the same amount of money that you currently make at your job on one condition — you don’t work. Might you be tempted? That is exactly the deal that our welfare system offers too many people today.

The federal government currently funds 126 separate anti-poverty programs at an annual cost of $688 billion. Of these, 72 provide cash or other benefits directly to poor families. State, county, and municipal governments often operate additional benefit programs. The combined benefits from those multiple overlapping programs can easily add up to the point where welfare simply pays better than work.
