The Times editors write “motives do not matter to the dead.” I would add that “weapons of choice do not matter to the dead.”

The pair have been holed up with a 26 year old hostage at the Danmartin print works in a town 30 miles north east of Paris.
In the past few minutes a series of explosions and gunfire has been seen and heard in the area. The firing appeared to last for roughly ten seconds. Smoke has been seen rising from the building.
