Shots were fired Monday inside the U.S. Navy Yard, injuring several people, according to the Navy and a Washington police spokesman. The incident began about 8:20 a.m. ET when several shots were fired inside the Naval Sea Systems Command headquarters in the southeast portion of the capital. The injured included a Washington, D.C., police officer who has been hospitalized, and another law officer not affiliated with the city force, a police spokesman said.

[Updated at 1:21 p.m.] In announcing that three shooting victims transported to MedStar Washington Hospital Center are expected to survive, Janis Orlowski, the chief medical officer, said there were other “individuals at the scene who will not be transported because they are deceased.”  Read the rest of this entry »
