A substitute teacher accused of having sex with a student is blaming education officials for her illegal indiscretions — claiming they failed to stop her, and “allowed” the relationship to blossom.

“These people all knew what was going on, and yet hey turned a blind eye because they wanted to protect their school. They didn’t want it to get into the limelight.”

In a series of interviews with reporters in Iowa, 24-year-old Mary Beth Haglin admitted to having sex teacher-3with a 17-year-old boy for much of the 2015-16 academic year — and accused Cedar Rapids Community School District of complicity.

“They didn’t ban me. They never actually said they were banning me from school grounds, they never said they were banning me from working at any other school…”

“These people all knew what was going on, and yet hey turned a blind eye because they wanted to protect their school. They didn’t want it to get into the limelight,” Haglin told KGAN-TV, saying she first had sex with the boy last October. “They allowed this to happen. They knew in February.”

“…they never said they were banning me from thus-and-so many feet of any school. They never said any of that.”

Haglin, a sub at George Washington HS, was arrested on Friday and booked for sexual exploitation of a minor.

AGAIN? Math Teacher Arrested for Alleged Sex with Student; Boy’s Mom Found Texts from Teacher on Phone then Reported Her

Christian Life Academy Teacher Amber Leigh Anderson was booked Tuesday into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a count of felony carnal knowledge of a juvenile

Ben Wallace reports: Following an investigation sparked by a recent complaint from a Baton Rouge high school student’s mother, sheriff’s deputies on Tuesday arrested a Christian Life Academy teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with the student about two years ago.

Amber Leigh Anderson, 27, a math teacher, engaged in the relationship with the student mostly during summer 2013 when the boy was a 15-year-old freshman at the school, according to an East Baton Rouge ParishAmber-Leigh-Anderson Sheriff’s Office report.

“She also said she picked up the victim and took him to her home, where they had sex…”

In April 2013, another student gave the victim Anderson’s cellphone number.

“Anderson characterized the relationship to deputies as ‘a mistake,’ the report says, and she apologized for ‘taking the victim’s innocence.’”

As time progressed, Anderson and the victim “became extremely close to one another,” the Sheriff’s Office report says.

“The relationship lasted a few more months until the boy’s mother found some of the text messages on her son’s cellphone that had been sent by Anderson. At that point, the mother confronted the teacher, told her to quit texting her son…”

Text messages between the two soon became sexually charged, and in July, Anderson began having sex with wda-7-teacher-sexthe student, the report says.

The relationship lasted a few more months until the boy’s mother found some of the text messages on her son’s cellphone that had been sent by Anderson. At that point, the mother confronted the teacher, told her to quit texting her son and “reported the matter to the school’s administration,” the report says, effectively bringing an end to the relationship between Anderson and the student.

A woman who answered the phone Tuesday at Christian Life Academy said the school would not comment on the incident. It’s unclear what the mother told the administration. Read the rest of this entry »

Mary Kay Letourneau: ‘I Want to Get My Name Off Sex-Offender Register’

Before embarking on a sexual relationship with her 13-year-old student, Letourneau was a married schoolteacher and the mother of four children. Today she is a grandmother, but she remains a registered sex offender.

K.C. Blumm writes: “There is a story of us that has a life of its own, but it’s not our story,” Mary Kay Letourneau told Barbara Walters in a revealing interview on 20/20 Friday.

“There’s a process, there’s a form, you take it to court and then they grant it if it looks like it should be granted.”

The 53-year-old – who spent 89 months in prison for child rape as a result of her relationship with her then-student Vili Fualaau in 1996 – is looking forward to celebrating her 10th wedding anniversary with Fualaau next month and admitted that as the date Mary-Kay-Lapproaches she’s been looking back on the events that shaped her life.

Before embarking on a sexual relationship with her 13-year-old student, Letourneau was a married schoolteacher and the mother of four children. Today she is a grandmother, but she remains a registered sex offender.

“Recently I said, ‘It’s been 10 years, why don’t I lift that?’ ” she told Walters of her status. “There’s a process, there’s a form, you take it to court and then they grant it if it looks like it should be granted.”

Letourneau, who also said that she’d like to return to teaching, admitted that earlier this year she was banned from visiting her sick teenage daughter in hospital because of her sex offender status.

While Fualaau said he remained faithful to Letourneau in his “heart and mind” while she was in prison, the former teacher says he wasn’t.

“He wasn’t faithful,” she said. “I said he did his thing, I was gone!”

However, the pair did stay in touch while Letourneau was in jail, even though they were banned from contacting each other. The couple communicated through their young Mary-Kay-L-Proud_She_is_pictured_showing_off_her_pregnancy_bump_in_a_photodaughters, who helped Fualaau propose to Letourneau.

“He had sent a message and they came in singing Hawaiian, ‘Will you marry me?’ They knew daddy would be proposing to mommy as soon as she got to leave [prison].”

As the talk turned to the couple’s children – Audrey, 17, and Georgia, 16, who were born when Fualaau was barely in his teens – Letourneau and her husband revealed that they don’t always see eye to eye when it comes to parenting.

“When the girls get in trouble, I wouldn’t handle it the way she would,” Fualaau, 31, admitted. “It will be a two-hour talk. I’ll be sitting there thinking, ‘When will this be over!’ A lot of the time I’ll give her a hard time about it but actually [it] works in the end.”

While Fualaau added that his wife is “a very good mom,” Letourneau revealed that he’s also a strict father to his girls.

“He told them several years ago, they’re not permitted to have a boyfriend,” Letourneau said. Read the rest of this entry »

Oh Yes She Did: Registered Sex Offender In Jail After Taking part in Motivational Assembly at Washington High School

Salsbury was convicted in 2011 and sentenced to almost a year in jail for her role in forcing underage girls to work as prostitutes. Law enforcement learned of the operation after one of the girls told her school resource officer about it

A registered sex offender was among the performers at a motivational assembly Tuesday at Kiona-Benton City High School.

Melissa Salsbury, who models under the name Mia Rose, is prohibited from being anywhere minors congregate, including schools, parks and public pools, said Benton County Sheriff’s Detective Mike Wilson.

She turned herself into authorities Wednesday afternoon.

“It wasn’t the school’s fault; they wanted to give their kids inspiration.”

— A.N.E. spokesman Ron Adams

She had not been cleared to speak in advance by high school administrators, according to a news release issued late Wednesday by Superintendent Wade Haun.

“The district accepts responsibility for this unfortunate situation and has acted to notify parents via our school reach system (a voice recorded message sent to all high school parents),” the release said.

A letter will be sent to parents Feb. 19 that informs them of events surrounding the assembly and steps the district will take in the future to prevent a recurrence, the release said.

Salsbury performed with a group called A.N.E./Money over Misery, comprised of musicians and artists sharing positive messages about bullying, peer pressure, education, overcoming negativity, self-worth, personal drive and staying focused.

A.N.E was not aware of Salsbury’s status, spokesman Ron Adams said. He noted that her background as a troubled youth trying to turn her life around resonated with Ki-Be students. Read the rest of this entry »

Man Calls 911 Because He ‘Needed A Woman’

My reaction to stories like this is “Oh come on, who hasn’t done that…”

A Louisiana man who allegedly called 911 dispatchers to say that he needed a woman turned out to be 911-needs-womanan convicted sex offender according to police who took him into custody.

Of his “emergency” request for a date on Saturday night, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office said that,

(note: you have to imagine this spoken by a law enforcement official with a Louisiana accent. Are you imagining it? Okay, here goes…)

“We are guessing he wasn’t looking for one to come and run his criminal history, but that is what he got.”

The responding deputy reportedly determined that the man was a non-compliant sex offender from New Orleans who was considered out of compliance because he failed to notify authorities of his new address — as required by state law — when he moved to the local area.

Editors note: An earlier version of this story mistakenly referred to the transgender member of this couple as a man. (note: that has to be the best correction reporter Stacia Glenn ever had to write)

The bride will wear a traditional white veil. The groom will wear a Grim Reaper cloak.

pic-mcneilislandcenterThey will step into a Wiccan circle to exchange vows and rings before being ushered back to their respective units at the Special Commitment Center, the state’s institution for sex offenders on McNeil Island.

Both live at the Special Committment Center on McNeil Island, which is a facility for sex offenders who have completed their prison sentences to live and get treatment. This will be the first time two residents have married each other.

According to the Tacoma News Tribune, Pollock and Elmore will exchange vows in a Wiccan ceremony; Pollock will be wearing a Grim Reaper cloak and Elmore will be wearing a white veil, both made by Pollock. The ceremony will be limited to two hours and only seven guests. After the ceremony, the couple will go back to their separate units at the SCC. They are not allowed to live together and any physical or sexual contact is prohibited. But their marriage is legal under Washington law and the ceremony isn’t costing the state anything.
