A teacher in Oklahoma was arrested after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a student.  (Canadian County Jail)

A married teacher in Oklahoma was arrested Wednesday, accused of having a sexual relationship with an underage student.

Hunter Day, 22, a science teacher at Yukon High School, was arrested by the Canadian County Sheriff’s Department on complaints of second-degree rape, facilitating sexual contact with a minor and possession of child pornography, KWTV reported. She is reportedly married to the school’s football coach.

“I’m no longer surprised by the people who commit these crimes, because predators come from all walks of life.”

—  Canadian County Sheriff Chris West

Authorities said they investigated the relationship after being notified by the boy’s parents and finding explicit photos and messages on his phone, the report said.

On the day of the arrest, the sheriff’s department said that Day and the teen had planned to meet at her house, KWTV reported. Deputies arrived at the residence and reportedly texted the teacher from the boy’s phone saying he’d arrived. Day responded to the message saying, “The doors [sic] unlocked as usual,” the report said.

The teacher confessed to sending the boy illicit “bra and panty” photos and said he’d also sent her photos of his genitals, KWTV reported. Read the rest of this entry »

38 Women Have Come Forward to Accuse Director James Toback of Sexual Harassment

Director James Toback told women that he could put them in movies. But then, they say, he sexually harassed them.

reports: He prowled the streets of Manhattan looking for attractive young women, usually in their early 20s, sometimes college students, on occasion a high schooler. He approached them in Central Park, standing in line at a bank or drug store or at a copy center while they worked on their resumes.

His opening line had a few variations. One went: “My name’s James Toback. I’m a movie director. Have you ever seen ‘Black and White’ or ‘Two Girls and a Guy’?”

Probably not. So he’d start to drop names. He had an Oscar nomination for writing the Warren Beatty movie “Bugsy.” He directed Robert Downey Jr., in three movies. The actor, Toback claimed, was a close friend; he had “invented him.” If you didn’t believe him, he would pull out a business card or an article that had been written about him to prove he had some juice in Hollywood. That he could make you a star.

But first, he’d need to get to know you. Intimately. Trust him, he’d say. It’s all part of his process.

NEW YORK, NY – JUNE 11: (L-R) Producer, writer and director Michael Moore and writer, director and actor James Toback attend Museum of the Moving Image Inaugural Envision Award Gala Dinner at Museum of the Moving Image on June 11, 2013 in New York City. (Photo by Monica Schipper/Getty Images)

Then, in a hotel room, a movie trailer, a public park, meetings framed as interviews or auditions quickly turned sexual, according to 38 women who, in separate interviews told the Los Angeles Times of similar encounters they had with Toback.

During these meetings, many of the women said, Toback boasted of sexual conquests with the famous and then asked humiliating personal questions. How often do you masturbate? How much pubic hair do you have? He’d tell them, they said, that he couldn’t properly function unless he “jerked off” several times a day. And then he’d dry-hump them or masturbate in front of them, ejaculating into his pants or onto their bodies and then walk away. Meeting over.

The women’s accounts portray James Toback as a man who, for decades, sexually harassed women he hired, women looking for work and women he just saw on the street. The vast majority of these women — 31 of the 38 interviewed — spoke on the record. The Times also interviewed people that the women informed of the incidents when they occurred.

As is often the case, none of them contacted the police at the time. When contacted by The Times, Toback denied the allegations, saying that he had never met any of these women or, if he did, it “was for five minutes and have no recollection.” He also repeatedly claimed that for the last 22 years, it had been “biologically impossible” for him to engage in the behavior described by the women in this story, saying he had diabetes and a heart condition that required medication. Toback declined to offer further details.

The women interviewed during The Times’ investigation offered accounts that differed from Toback’s recollections.

“The way he presented it, it was like, ‘This is how things are done,’” actress Adrienne LaValley said of a 2008 hotel room encounter that ended with Toback trying to rub his crotch against her leg. When she recoiled, he stood up and ejaculated in his pants. “I felt like a prostitute, an utter disappointment to myself, my parents, my friends. And I deserved not to tell anyone.”

“In a weird sense, I thought, ‘This is a test of whether I’m a real artist and serious about acting,’” remembered Starr Rinaldi, who was an aspiring actress when Toback approached her in Central Park about 15 years ago. Read the rest of this entry »

Love & War: Does the Mate-Switching Hypothesis Explain Female Infidelity?

Evolutionary theory says men stray to increase offspring, but what motivates women? Enter the mate-switching hypothesis.

David Buss is professor of psychology at University of Texas, Austin. His work has been published widely in journals and he is the author of several books, including The Evolution of Desire: Strategies in Human Mating (new edition, 2016). Edited by Pam Weintraub

writes: Scientists now know much about human mating. The menu includes at a minimum: brief sexual flings, long-term pair-bonding, some infidelity, some polygyny (one man, multiple wives), rare polyandry (one woman, multiple husbands), occasional polyamory, some divorce, and frequent serial mating. These strategies are not well-captured by single labels such as ‘monogamous’ or ‘polygamous’. And we know with reasonable certainty that lifelong monogamy does not describe the primary pattern.

Divorce rates in the United States have hovered just below 50 per cent, and are variable but comparable across cultures around the globe. Among married couples, infidelity is far from a trivial occurrence. In 1952, the sexologist Alfred Kinsey estimated it at 26 per cent for women and 50 per cent for men, although other studies put rates lower or higher. We know that infidelity is the leading cause of divorce worldwide, from the Inuit in Alaska to the !Kung San of Botswana. And we know that most adults in the modern world, including roughly 85 per cent in the US, have experienced at least one romantic break-up.

But there has always been one missing piece of the puzzle when it comes to understanding mating strategies, especially among women. Why do women have so many affairs when these do not increase the number of offspring they can produce?

From an evolutionary perspective, male infidelity is fairly straightforward. Men have evolved a strong desire for sexual variety, stronger than women’s on average, due to the large asymmetries in parental investment. Men can reproduce with as little effort as it takes to inseminate a fertile woman. Women require a metabolically costly nine-month pregnancy to produce a single child. Stated differently, an ancestral married man with two children could have increased his reproductive output by 50 per cent by a single successful reproduction with an affair partner. Adding additional sex partners for women who already have one generally does not, and never could have, dramatically increased their reproductive success.

Yet women do have affairs, a phenomenon that, up until now, has been explained by the ‘good genes hypothesis’: the concept that women have evolved a dual mating strategy – securing investment from one man while mating on the side with men who have better genes than their regular partners.

But the good genes hypothesis fails to explain why, in the wake of infidelity, so many women literally stray, throwing over a current mate for the affair partner. My team’s new concept – the mate-switching hypothesis – fills the gap in scientific understanding, explaining what we observe in the real world. The mate-switching hypothesis posits that women have affairs to extricate themselves from a poor mateship and trade up to a better partner.

For both sexes, the hypothesis explains what we commonly observe: a year after publicly declaring her marriage vows, a woman finds herself sexually attracted to her co-worker. After changing his child’s fifth diaper of the day, a man wonders whether he made a terrible mistake and fantasises about his high-school sweetheart that got away. After six years of marriage, a woman finds that she’s the primary breadwinner and her husband’s laziness has eroded her confidence in their union; she notices that her co-worker lingers longer in the doorway of her office than strictly needed. After years of living a life of quiet desperation, a man starts a passionate affair with his next-door neighbour. A woman confesses to her best friend that she’s in love with another man and surreptitiously lays the groundwork for leaving her husband – a separate bank account and a deposit on an apartment.

These diverse scenarios stem from a common cause – humans have evolved strategic adaptations for mate-switching, a phenomenon that is widespread across species. The simplest such adaptation is the ‘walk-away’ strategy, in which organisms simply physically separate themselves from costly cooperative partners. The mate-switching hypothesis proposes a version of the walk-away strategy underpinned by human psychological adaptations designed to detect and abandon costly mates in favour of more beneficial ones.

Many in modern cultures grow up believing a myth about lifelong love. We are told about falling for the one and only. We learn that the path to fulfilment is paved with a single glorious union. But the plots of fictional love stories often come to a close upon the discovery of that one and only, and rarely examine the aftermath. The story of Cinderella ends with her getting the prince. After overcoming countless obstacles, a union is finally consummated. Few romantic fantasies follow the storyline of committed mating – the gradual inattentiveness to each other’s needs, the steady decline in sexual satisfaction, the exciting lure of infidelity, the wonder about whether the humdrum greyness of married life is really all life has to offer.

In fact, we come from a long and unbroken line of ancestors who went through mating crises – ancestors who monitored mate value, tracked satisfaction with their current unions, cultivated back-ups, appraised alternatives, and switched mates when conditions proved propitious. To understand why, we must turn our gaze to those ancestors and uncover the mating challenges that they confronted. Read the rest of this entry »

[VIDEO] Vanessa Grigoriadis on the ‘Blurred Lines’ of Consensual Sex and Assault on Campus

Is rape culture out of control, or have we entered a new era of “sexual McCarthyism?” We sat down with Vanessa Grigoriadis to discuss her new book, Blurred Lines: Rethinking Sex, Power, and Consent on Campus.

“Young women are really putting their foot down and saying, ‘These are our bodies,'” says Vanessa Grigoriadis, author of the new book, Blurred Lines: Rethinking Sex, Power, and Consent on Campus. “‘We don’t care what you, 55-year-old college president, think is consent.'”

From the conviction of Vanderbilt University football players for raping an unconscious student to the he-said-she-said story behind Columbia University’s “mattress girl” to the discredited Rolling Stone account of a gang rape at the University of Virginia, few topics generate more emotion and outrage than sexual assault on college campuses.

Grigoriadis’s book is a deeply researched and nuanced take on campus relationships and the often-fuzzy boundary separating consensual sex from assault. Over the past three years, she interviewed over 100 students and 80 administrators on 20 different campuses, and her findings further complicate an already complicated story.

Millennial college students are actually having less sex than their baby boomer and Gen X counterparts did, writes Grigoriadis, but today’s encounters take place in a hyper-sexualized and “pornified” social media context that has rewritten the rules of consent and privacy.

The result is confusion and recriminations from all sides when it comes to sex and assault on campuses. Are assault rates and rape culture out of control, or have we entered what left-wing Northwestern Professor Laura Kipnis has called a new era of “sexual McCarthyism?” Read the rest of this entry »

Bill Nye, Progressive Science, and the Threat of Nature

Alastair's Adversaria

Over the last couple of days, I’ve seen a number of people sharing clips from episode 9 of Bill Nye’s new Netflix show, Bill Nye Saves the World. The videos in question were of two segments of the show. In the first, Rachel Bloom of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend sings and raps rather discordantly about not ‘boxing in’ her ‘sex junk’. She tells people to get off their ‘soapbox’, declaring ‘sex how you want: it’s your goddamn right!’

In the other video from the show, much the same message—that there are ‘lots of flavours to sexuality’—is communicated using anthropomorphized ice creams. Vanilla starts a group for ice cream conversion therapy, declaring that, as vanilla, he feels that he is ‘the most natural of the ice creams’ and that to ‘get right with the big ice cream in the sky,’ the others should change their flavour by wishing to be vanilla. OH NO SHE DIDN’T: Sarah Fowlkes: This Bad Teacher is All Smiles After Student-Sex Bust

Yaro Steinbuch reports:  Married Texas teacher Sarah Fowlkes couldn’t wipe the smile off her face for her mugshot after being accused of romping with a 17-year-old student, the Houston Chronicle reported.

Fowlkes, 26, was suspended from her job as an anatomy and physiology teacher at Lockhart High School after turning herself in to police Monday – hours after celebrating her birthday with her hubby.

The beaming blonde allegedly engaged in “sexual content with the intent to arouse or gratify the sexual desire” of the student, the Daily Star reported.

Detectives launched the investigation on March 10 after getting a tip from a school administrator. The probe led them to the boy, who had been in touch with Fowlkes, cops said.

Margaret Wente: Why Are Young Feminists so Clueless About Sex?

secret-sex-parrrrtayyy

They’ve been sold a lie – that sexual and behavioural differences between men and women are matters of preference.

2015-margaret_wenteMargaret Wente writes: A few months ago, a Harvard senior named Reina Gattuso wrote a column in the school newspaper. It described her crummy night of drunken sex with a couple of men she didn’t know. “I have so much to drink my memory becomes dark water,” she wrote. She freely admitted that she consented. Enthusiastically. And that was the problem. She thought she would enjoy it, but instead she just felt rotten!

“They’ve been told they are supposed to be having a super-positive sex life – unconflicted, joyous, casual and abundant.”

Most people might conclude from this experience that random sex with drunken strangers is a poor idea, and Ms. Gattuso really should not try that again. Old-fashioned moralists might even call such behaviour tawdry, degrading and sluttish. Not Ms. Gattuso. And not Rebecca Traister, the New York Magazine writer who wrote about it. To them, the moral of the story is that the world is awash in bad consensual sex. This is due to the persistent power imbalances between women and men. 200181253-001Until we fix this, women cannot be sexually happy. As Ms. Traister argues, “The game is rigged.

“They’ve been told they should be able to have as many partners and initiate sex just as often as men do. And they’ve tried that. And it hasn’t worked out very well.”

Ironically, today’s feminists are serious about consent but casual about sex. And to their shock, they’ve discovered that there’s an awful lot of bad sex out there. They did not expect this. They’ve been told they are supposed to be having a super-positive sex life – unconflicted, joyous, casual and abundant. They’ve been told they should be able to have as many partners and initiate sex just as often as men do. And they’ve tried that. And it hasn’t worked out very well. Instead of feeling super-positive, they feel sexually dissatisfied, emotionally disconnected and more than a little used.

The surprise is that so many young women are surprised by this. Haven’t they watched Girls?

“Ironically, today’s feminists are serious about consent but casual about sex. And to their shock, they’ve discovered that there’s an awful lot of bad sex out there.”

The trouble isn’t men, of course. Nor is it the culture. The trouble is that these women have been sold a lie. Read the rest of this entry »

China Suspends WWII Drama After Complaints About ‘Crotch Bomb’ Scene

crotch-bomb

Katie Nelson reports: An anti-Japanese war drama has been temporarily pulled from Chinese television after viewers complained that a scene showing a female character concealing a suicide bomb in her crotch has gone too far.

“They are using sex and violence to entice the audience under the cover of national sentiments. They are reveling on the scars of the history.”

— Xinhua editorial that lashed out at ludicrous plots in such dramas

That’s saying something, considering Chinese TV dramas set during the Japanese invasion are known for their impossibly violent and outlandish plots. This includes one scenario in which a man ripped a Japanese soldier in half with his bare hands, and another scene showing a communist hero blowing up a plane by tossing a hand grenade in the air.

“The authorities have banned foreign TV shows only to let us see this?”

— Question from a dissatisfied netizen

The State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) is now reviewing the popular period drama Together We Fight the Devils, after the viewers seemed to agree that the scene showing Chinese actress Ge Tian pulling an explosive from her undercarriage was even more lewd than usual.

[See the video at Shanghaiist]

The shot begins with “sister Yin” visiting her lover who’d been locked up by Japanese soldiers, Associated Press explains.

Darcy Smith, a teacher at McMicken Heights Elementary School, was charged Monday with three counts of third-degree child rape.

In May 2014, the former student reported to the King County Sheriff’s Office that when he was 12 years old and in the 6th smith1grade, he moved into the Renton home of his 6th-grade teacher, Darcy Smith.  He said that when he was 14, they started having sex and that continued until he was 18 and moved out of Smith’s house, a sheriff’s detective said in the court documents.

The victim said that he came to live in Smith’s home after he broke his collarbone in the 6th grade and Smith took him to the hospital and invited to stay with her family. He said his mother and Smith agreed that he could live with Smith and her family because she spoke English and lived closer to the hospital.

Also, he said, his mother was concerned because his older brother was involved in gangs and was a bad influence. Read the rest of this entry »

High School Teacher Julianna Ortiz Mills Charged with Indecent Liberties with a Student

JOMILLS

Mills was placed under a $10,000 secured bond

A teacher at South Iredell High School was charged after having a sexual relationship with a student, according to the Iredell Sheriff’s Office.

“Deputies say the student is over the age of 16, but according to North Carolina law it is a felony for a teacher to have a sexual relationship with a student at the same school.”

The investigation began when an Iredell County deputy saw a suspicious vehicle parked in an undeveloped residential area. The deputy said a woman, later identified as 37-year-old Julianna Ortiz Mills, was standing next to the vehicle and a younger male was sitting inside.

OCONTO (AP) — A man and a woman have been sentenced to jail terms for having sex in a squad car after they were pulled over for drunken driving in northeastern Wisconsin.

The Oconto County Reporter reports (http://gbpg.net/1uyycCB ) that 33-year-old Travis Husnik, of Luxemburg, and 29-year-old Heather Basten, of New Franken, were being taken to the Oconto County Jail on August 3rd when they started having sex. The deputy stopped them. They were charged with lewd and lascivious behavior and disorderly conduct.

Judge Jay Conley cited Husnik’s lengthy criminal record and history of disrespect to law enforcement when he sentenced Husnik recently to 90 days in jail, with credit for time served since his arrest.

Another judge sentenced Basten separately to time served of 48 days for drunken driving and disorderly conduct.

カストリ雑誌「だんらん」「真相」

1958年(S33)/1948年(S23)

The title of this magazine not easy to translate, my source tells me. “Relaxation”, sort of, but implying gathering, or visiting. This is the May issue, in the very short history of this publication.

The magazine itself is an enigma. It was produced for maybe only one year, in the 1950s, then discontinued. The stories inside were about sex, crime, true confessions (which were usually about sex) and the description says it was a low-quality book printed on really cheap paper. Which was (and still is) true of a lot of pulp books and comics in Japan. If any bilingual readers recognize this vintage magazine, or can translate this better (the google translate version is too poor to include here) we’d be interested. On the web, my source found this.

Landesman: Why Are Right Wing Women So Hot? The Lust That Dare Not Speak Its Name

Cosmo_WD

My secret lust for right-wing women

“I envy men of the right — their sexual lives are not constrained by the rules of sexual correctness we lefties are expected to live by.”

For The Spectator.uk,  writes: Not long ago I was out drinking with a group of friends and we started playing the If-You-Had-To game. The idea is to present players with two people they would never want to sleep with — and then make them choose which they’d sleep with. Here are some of the fiendish alternatives I had to face: Imelda Marcos or Wallace Simpson? Ayn Rand or Yoko Ono? Gertrude Stein or Virginia Woolf?

“Sorry, comrades, but when it comes to the bedroom I’ll have to vote Tory.”

Then one joker said: Theresa May or Jemima Khan? Everyone laughed at this no-contest choice. Everyone except me. How could I tell them the ugly truth: I’d prefer a night of passion with right-wing Theresa over lefty Jemima any day of the week.

Cosmo

Theresa May or Jemima Khan? Photo: Getty

But then I belong to that small, deviant group of liberal-lefty-pro-feminist men who find conservative/right-wing women super sexy. In an age when anything goes — at least in terms of sexual pleasure — ours is a lust that dare not speak its name.

[On progressivism ruining sex: “Well, it ruins everything, you know” — Glenn Reynolds].

I know this because later that evening, I turned to one of the group and confessed my secret longing for the likes of Theresa May, Ann Coulter and Sarah Palin — ideally all at once. I thought my fantasy night of passion would be received with sympathy and understanding. After all, this friend of mine pays a woman in Earls Court to put him on a rack and do things you don’t want to read about. He just looked at me and said: ‘You’re sick!’ Read the rest of this entry »

Poll finds that 55 per cent of French men and 32 per cent of French women are unfaithful and that infidelity is on the rise but that the French are champions of forgiveness

From Paris, Henry Samuel reports:  A majority of French men and a third of French women cheat on their partners, a new poll, has found indicating that infidelity is on the rise in France among both sexes.

The study also found that Left-wing French are more likely to cheat on their partners than those who identify themselves as on the Right

Will we ever want to have sex with robots?

Is this really the future of human-robot relations?

Is this really the future of human-robot relations?

By Tim BowlerBusiness reporter, BBC News

Meet Roxxxy the sex robot with a triple XXX. Depending on your view ‘she’ is either at the cutting edge of the human-robot interface, or a modern reflection on some men’s difficulties in relating to real-life partners.

While sex aids are nothing new, what makes Roxxxy different is “we’ve taken artificial intelligence” and “combined it with a human form,” says creator Douglas Hines.

Of course, humanoid robots have been the stuff of science fiction for decades – ever since Fritz Lang’s 1927 film Metropolis, or Isaac Asimov’s I Robot stories.

The reality is somewhat more clunky.
