Attorney: 3rd Party Leaked Sterling Recording
Posted: May 1, 2014 Filed under: Entertainment, Law & Justice, Mediasphere, U.S. News | Tags: Donald Sterling, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Clippers, Magic Johnson, Nehoray, Rochelle, Stiviano, Tami Abdollah, TMZ 1 CommentLOS ANGELES (AP) — Tami Abdollah reports: An attorney representing the woman Donald Sterling was talking to when he made racist remarks said Thursday that the hour-long conversation was taped by mutual agreement last September and provided to a friend for safekeeping, who then leaked it to TMZ.
V. Stiviano sent two snippets of the conversation, recorded in her Los Angeles duplex, to a friend who released them without her permission, lawyer Siamak Nehoray said. He would not identify the friend.
Nehoray said she sent snippets of the conversation recorded on her phone electronically to her friend for safekeeping in case anything happened, but only two went through, Nehoray said.
He wouldn’t elaborate on what prompted her to send the recordings. Read the rest of this entry »
TMZ Official: No Comment on Whether We Paid for Sterling Audio
Posted: April 29, 2014 Filed under: Breaking News, Entertainment, U.S. News | Tags: Adam Silver, Donald Sterling, Erik Wemple, Harvey Levin, Los Angeles, Los Angeles Clippers, NBA, TMZ, Washington Post 1 CommentFor the Washington Post, Erik Wemple writes: Ever since TMZ posted on Friday night its story about the recorded racist remarks of Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling to V. Stiviano, news outlets had taken to calling those comments “alleged.” That’s an important bit of caution, given how easy it is for people to alter, fabricate and otherwise doctor audio — or anything that bubbles up on the Internet.
“The reason we were able to secure the tape is based purely on fact that we have an experienced news desk that has spent the years building a solid network of sources and contacts, and the fact that we got the tape was the result of those relationships over the years.”
— Evan Rosenblum, executive producer of TMZ
Yet Evan Rosenblum, executive producer of TMZ and TMZ Sports, didn’t put much credence in the whole “alleged” thing. “We spent eight days” vetting the tape before publication, “contacting everybody under the sun and doing our due diligence trying to vet this thing. It didn’t go up on the Web site until we were 100 percent sure it was authentic.”
After NBA Commissioner Adam Silver today banned Sterling from the league, those “allegeds” will find their way to a speedy extinction. Read the rest of this entry »
That’s So Fetch! Rejoice, Tina Fey Fans: Mean Girls Reunion IS HAPPENING, Says TMZ
Posted: March 11, 2014 Filed under: Breaking News, Entertainment, Mediasphere | Tags: Amanda Seyfried, Jimmy Fallon, Lindsay, Lindsay Lohan, Lizzy Caplan, Masters of Sex, Mean Girls, Rachel McAdams, Tina Fey, TMZ Leave a commentNote: Mean Girls is not just a chick movie. Along with rare smart-fluff stealth-comedy classics like Legally Blonde, Lots of guys dig it, too. Why? Tina Fey. It’s Tina Fey’s movie writing/directing debut, and it’s a pop-culture time capsule. Though Lohan is its star character, her fellow cast members–particularly Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried–rocketed to fame, whooshing right past the fading Lohan. (It’s also the last movie where Lohan looked healthy and promising) The abundance of ensemble talent in Mean Girls helps make it an enduring favorite.
Lindsay Lohan wasn’t spewing BS on “Jimmy Fallon” Thursday night — talking about a “Mean Girls” reunion — TMZ has learned, it’s been in the works for weeks.
[Order Mean Girls on Blu-ray from Amazon]
FYI, 2014 is the 10th anniversary of the film’s release — and sources tell us, co-writer Tina Fey has been leading the charge for a reunion to commemorate the occasion … wrangling the entire cast over the last month.
[Bonus quiz: Bonus: Which Mean Girls cast member is now the co-star of Masters of Sex? Answer after the jump]
And Lindsay was apparently the last to know about it — she went on “Fallon” Thursday talking about how she had just run into Tina who mentioned the reunion idea to her … and Lindsay was into it.
It’s unclear how the reunion will come together — Jimmy suggested hosting it on his show — but we’re told it could also materialize as a comedy sketch … maybe on an awards show…
